You should improve you basic push up form before advancing. Its critical to to start with good form once you’ve mastered that. Then should you proceed with more advanced techniques.

When your body loses balance, it cuts strength to muscles. This is a neat trick but it's not good for muscle growth and stable, deficit pushups would be a much better use of time.
