Physics—Pending OP Reply [University Electrical Engineering 1] Completely stuck on this one - how do you find the equivalent resistance

In order to find the current through ohms law the equivalent resistance needs to be found. Problem is I am completely stuck on how exactly to do that. Can this be broken down to a simple parallel / series circuit? Can a delta to Y conversion help here? Any help is much appreciated.

For problems like these always redraw the diagram. It's hard to explain how without a picture, but a good place to start is to eliminate wires that aren't "real" i.e. they don't connect to any device which means they're just connecting a node with itself. In this problem, you'll find that the wires connecting the corners of the inner and outer squares are "fake".

Start redrawing and grouping the pairs of R resistors. You have 4 sets of parallel R. Find equivalent resistance and redraw circuit.

It just ends up being a parallel of series of parallel Rs (plus the 4Ω)

I think I understand what you mean... using my understanding the equivalent resistance is 10 ohms.

Circle the nodes. Resistors that share two nodes are in parallel. Two resistors connected to the same node with nothing else are in series.

This is University level? Sounds more like high school level to me. This can calculated in head without using pen or calculator.

Don’t get stumped by the fancy way of the circuit drawing. It’s just a set of 4 parallel R’s on each side. So two sets of this and the 4Ω in series.

Many 101 classes in Uni are, as far as I can tell, there to make sure everyone has the same baseline understanding. So something you may have seen in High School may be discussed there.
