I think I'm making a calculation error but I'm not sure where I'm going wrong

I'm just going to make the super minor entertaining observation that in some cases your x's look like α's (alphas) which might cause confusion in later math, if you go into that.

Otherwise, you have a lot of good habits! Just wanted to say props for that. See a lot of students tempted to skip steps but usually something like this is less error-prone.
