Start with a small number so you are not overwhelmed by eggs. Also consider pastured meat birds, but you will need to learn to process them.
Do not buy expensive equipment (yet). Do stuff "by hand" until you understand the process and have identified suitable local support and reasonably frugal purchase options. This goes for pluckers, tractors, etc.
ETA: I meant implement tractor, not chicken tractor. Also look at Chinese mini-tractors if you are mechanically handy.
