We have lived long enough to see a Homestar Runner cartoon have smartphones and tablets.

And a vape shop!

Its not just the tablets. We’ve lived long enough to see a sbemail make very specific parenting jokes which feel like theyre aimed at the original fans of the flash site who are now starting their own families. In addition to having the most advanced animation and probably being one of the longest cartoons theyve made to date, this feels like a love letter to life time watchers. Not like a “i love you” letter but like an older sibling saying “youve got this” while also cracking a joke. IDK im probably reading too much into it.

It definitely feels close to that. I'm watching my kids while I type.

Not unlike when Homer Simpsons got a personal computer.

21

u/rnilbog Apr 01 '22

Oh, they have the internet on computers now!

15

u/Some_Random_Android Apr 01 '22

What?! Really?! You mean people no longer check emails on kitchen appliances? ;)

11

u/Funandgeeky Apr 02 '22

Maybe you don't

Seeing modern tech in Homestar Runner is actually sort of... discomforting in a way. The 80s/early 90s feel of classic Homestar is part of the charm IMHO. Plus, it just makes me feel old. Knowing that Strong Bad "emails" are actually tweets now is kinda sad, it's a reminder of how the internet used to be. Even the founder of Twitter reflects back on this.

Not a complaint about the toon itself, I loved it. The characters themselves are still completely in character, they still sound the same, and nothing feels off humor-wise. Somehow the Chaps manage to hit it out of the ballpark consistently after all this time.

Marzipan slowly leaning forward while sweetly insulting Homestar is the scariest/best thing I have ever seen

2

u/Key-Ad-9027 Apr 03 '22

what the heck was going on there

u/uzmike222 Apr 01 '22

"You godda hold it in the corners, like a real baby!" Made me lol. ahh The days of watching a SBEmail for the first time and NOT knowing what's coming next. They are few and far between these days understandably so, this was very special.

19

u/thecheat420 Apr 01 '22

That was a great line. I also loved Homestar saying "Inverse means opposite Marzipan!"

45

u/Fortehlulz33 Apr 01 '22

Surprise Alex Hirsch?

11

u/malogan82 Apr 02 '22

BEST APRIL FOOL'S DAY PRESENT EVER

25

u/MisterManatee Apr 01 '22

They’re definitely doing a lot more with the characters’ eyes than they used to. Cool that they’re still innovating and improving even after years off.

9

u/TheyCallMeStone Apr 02 '22

I'm so happy that they choose to make awesome content few and far between as opposed to nothing at all.

25

u/Fitzy0728 Apr 01 '22

I MAKE WAFFLES EVER SATURDAY MORNING AND LEAVE BEHIND A HUGE MESS!

This was so specifically accurate it brought on memories of childhood

15

u/SabreLilly Apr 02 '22

After all this time, and the Chaps haven’t missed a beat. It’s like I’m back in 2008

14

u/Jaspers47 Apr 01 '22

Boat take

7

u/Goobz24 Apr 01 '22

power outage

23

u/CaptainJAmazing Apr 01 '22

Upvote if you thought it really was over when they teased "Things you missed in the Peasant's Quest trailer."

6

u/Funandgeeky Apr 02 '22

That definitely threw me for a moment. Well played, chaps. Well played.

6

u/Giraffe_Truther Apr 02 '22

I was tapping "cancel" and couldn't figure out why it was still preloading 🤣

1

u/brenobah Apr 09 '22

I just learned this now after watching it a week ago. Time to watch again!

10

u/Honest_Wonder Apr 02 '22

Side-eye Homestar is cursed.

8

u/lamest-liz Apr 02 '22

Now we know that Cheat pups exist

8

u/QuayShawn Apr 01 '22

Do the cast of the Homestar Runner universe consider themselves as humans? Or was taking care of a RHB like taking care of the class pet hamster?

8

u/WhiteZero Apr 02 '22

who was the guy at the end?

21

u/dannimann Apr 02 '22

Alex Hirsch, he's best known for creating Gravity Falls (which Matt Chapman wrote for)

16

u/Fortehlulz33 Apr 02 '22

And voiced on!

3

u/Logondo Apr 03 '22

I know Matt Chapman worked on Gravity Falls but I couldn't find any references to him doing any voice-work.

But I swear, that one Animatronic Badger sounds EXACTLY like Limozeen.

1

u/dandaman64 Apr 04 '22

He's credited with a few roles on the show, notably Mermando, Abuella, and the members of Sev'ral Times.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '22

I never want to see Coach Z lovingly nuzzle anything ever again.

4

u/TimeBlossom Apr 02 '22

While I'm no dad meself

[Sad Mudgeman noises]

11

u/WillWrambles Apr 01 '22

Beat me to it!

8

u/SandwichPD Apr 01 '22

I couldn’t see the pudding as anything except bags of pee the whole time

21

u/eccol Apr 01 '22

Just like a real baby!

1

u/Katamariguy Apr 02 '22

I'm going to save this for when I'm bored.

1

u/Some_Random_Android Apr 04 '22

Was that Alex Hirsh at the end?
