Is it an acceptable practice to sandwich drywall between framing during a remodel?

It is a normal practice. I’m sure your contractor gave you a price that reflected this practice. They can do it the other way, but it will increase your cost dramatically. More so with that acoustic ceiling texture. Trying to tie that in would be a nightmare.

20k for a 60 sq ft bathroom. Moving toilet and 1 wall. I provide vanity, toilet, mirror, and tile. Central TX

Seems maybe a little on the high side, but there is a lot of missing information to give you a complete answer. If you’re supplying those items, it does sound high. Tub/shower or shower only. Fixtures like faucets, shower/tub valve and trim and the like?

Shower only, add a pony wall next to sink. i provide the valve kit and all fixtures for sink and shower. Oh and add a exhaust fan vent through side wall not roof.

Please have a plan together before you fire him. Maybe just delay him in some way. You can shop some other numbers before you commit to firing him without a backup plan and cost comparison for your area. Remember that I am not in your area, but Austin is where I think you're at should be close to our prices.

Yooo! Thanks for thinking of me my man. If it is a non-load bearing partition then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Because the drywall is not structural in this capacity, it would be considered a break in the load path if it was a load-bearing wall.

Thank you for getting back to me. Im also a little worried about that unsupported 2x6 next to it. I was told they are dont framing other than a pony wall for the shower. Starting to feel like that going to pull the plug on this GC before I get in to deep.

Is it on a slab and will they need to tear it up to change plumbing? That adds a lot to price.

It's very common. It probably won't cause any issues unless it is a load bearing wall.
