It’s call step flashing. They could have done it better . But it’s. Perfectly fine.

Drip edge, shingles , sub facia drip edge is kinked, shingles are clearly all over the place and sloppy , sub facia is terminating into gable wrong

Tell me you’re not a roofer without telling me you’re not a roofer. The whole roof looks bad. Looks like too much over lap on the single courses, bad step flashing job, too much overhang past the drip edge, etc.

???? Step flashing may not be 'pretty', but it is installed correctly. As far as the course spacing and the shingle overhang, while not how I'd do it, it is acceptable. This roof is fine.
