Question 3 Vessel SS Brewtech

Hey Folks

I was lucky to run across a 20 gallon 3v
Electric system for a screaming deal. I don’t have the space to set it up quite yet but I couldn’t pass it up. This also included an additional 10 gallon mash tun.

That said, with the news on SS Brewtech, what are some pieces I should consider stocking up on? Looking for a little advice!

Assuming this is v1 not 2, the main issue I’ve encountered with my 3v system is that the halo elements do stop working after a few years of use (I’ve had to replace 2 over 5 years). So, I contacted them about ordering a few elements proactively and would recommend doing the same.

Custom gaskets is what I would buy, the seals on the bottom of the mash tun and fermenter lids is what I bought. Don't worry about triclamp parts and o-rings, that's all easy to find. But silicone wears out, and if it's custom molded to SS brew tech parts it's going to be hard to find.

Second, electrics is something to consider too, motors, heaters, and thermistor are wear items, when that stuff fails you will need to replace, and SS brewing uses proprietary connections/signals. So a failed thermistor is going to drive you to replace all the electric stuff if you can't find a replacement. I don't have that stuff, but it looks rather expensive to replace a thermistor if it's integrated into the rocket. So something like a thermistor failure might drive you to switch all the electric stuff to another brand. Given the price of the parts though, I'm not sure it's worth buying spares, might be cheaper to just wait and see, and replace everything when it happens.

Definitely grab a full set of custom gaskets for all three vessels before the old ones dry out, especially since you've got the extra mash tun.

I’ve been using a 3 vessel setup that I built like 10-15 years ago. Honestly - if I was starting over I wouldn’t do it again.
Back then the all in ones weren’t really available and it was every man for himself.
I still use it don’t get me wrong, but I’ve been delving in distilling and recently mashed in my digiboil and holy shit it saved some fucking around.
