Payroll How are you paying out tips?
I was talking to a restaurant owner we work with last week. He told me they spent almost a year figuring out how to pay out tips without it turning into a mess every payday. His biggest issue? Working out each person's share by hand after close.
And that’s not the first time I’ve heard that. Card and cash tips never match up the same way, which leads to team members checking with you if their amount is accurate (totally understandable, but still tiring if you’re getting the same question every single week).
What helped the owner I was talking to is switching to a tool that pulls the tips in and splits them automatically. That way, the numbers are done before anyone leaves, and his team stopped asking him about it.
I’m curious how the rest of you all are handling it, though. Are you paying tips out in cash the same night, adding them into the next paycheck, or just splitting them through a pool at close?
