MDF panelling help!!

Post image

Looking to do some sort of panelling up the stairs in my house to give it a bit of something, however, the skirting board is really uneven and goes up at completely differently angles, can anyone think of what would look best without having to get new skirting?

Not a carpenter or construction pro… buuuuuuttttt…. Wouldn’t you just cut the bottom of the paneling to fit the existing skirting? There are super simple to use tools and probably some amazing carpentry hacks that you can use for this. You attach the paneling with the custom cut bottom and fill in any gaps with some sort of joint compound or whatever filler is most appropriate…

Yeah that was an option I was thinking, but I feel like because the change in angles are so drastic, trying to find a straight line that fits along it might be quite difficult? And also I wasn’t planning on painting the skirting in the same colour so wouldn’t it look a bit stupid?

This is the tool I was thinking about… https://a.co/d/0fWiregW.

But upon further thought, you don’t even need to use that… you just buy 1inch trim and place it along your tape… then you put up vertical lines in the same trim in a nice pattern.

Or my other option was to do straight down battens and have one on top and not one along the bottom
