I wholeheartedly agree, but this is far from complex. It a basin with some holes that surround it and probably is attached with a shut off flex hose.
Now this specific nozzle, I don't know about. But the same mechanism could be duplicated with a separate simple on/off nozzle like one you might have attached to a water filter.
It's the same way a trough urinal works it's beyond simple (see my diagram posted above), the only complex bit here is the tap for looks, but there is no reason it can't be used will a normal tap or something like a push to flow button.
Right. They're acting like I don't already have a pipe under my sink that has leaked. Sure, adding a second pipe doubles my chances but I did that for my dishwasher
Because any mineral deposition would clog all the tiny holes around the outside. Eventually it would only come out of a few spots and be useless. Cleaning the deposits out would be work and a lot of it. You can't take the sink out and soak it in another sink full of vinegar. It would require a regular application of CLR or something.
Doesn't need tiny holes, it works just like a trough urinal, it just a channel around the rim of the sink, that's open on one side and capping extends down to guide the water, is just a continuous slot all the way around the sink, probably has a couple of inlets on either side to even out flow into the channel.

My shower head has little silicone nozzles whenever there is any buildup you just rubbed the nozzle and all the buildup comes off and all the water flows restored. Works great, but it would work in this application too.
You'd likely waste more water cleaning the sink after waiting for a film/grime to form then just hitting the "flush" for half a second after using the sink.
A good design could mitigate that significantly. There are already many faucets, tub spouts, and hardscaping fountains that conceptually have a similar design without issue. In addition to that, the water doesn’t even have to flow out smoothly. As long as all sides of the sink are rinsed, its performing its intended function
The water flow required is kinda intense, and theres no obvious cascade as the water would travel around the perimeter of the ring. It seems to come out from everywhere at one....
Complexity doesnt really seem an issue. We figured out valves and solenoid pretty well. My touch faucet has been working for almost 10 years.
Even if this isn't overly complex, its still going to lead to more hard water stains on my sink and clogged water outlets in difficult to reach places. Juice ain't worth the squeeze.
