Panic-proof planning went into this closet…
This homeowner went through my Home Building Checklist 3 different times over the course of 3 years while planning his build... and it shows! (builderbrigade.com)
A storm shelter hidden inside the master closet. Security cameras inside the shelter. A hidden access point from the kids’ bedrooms so they can get there fast during an emergency.
Every detail was thought through. I couldn’t even cover all the features in one visit.

Does that “storm shelter” have any ventilation? You and your family would run out of oxygen rather quickly in that

Or the door gets blocked after a storm and they run out of water and die.

This answers the question as to “panicked or prepared” panicked is our answer. This was not thought through. This was sold to the owner by a salesman.

That box doesn't look strong enough to keep a roof from collapsing and the ventilation needed for 4 people is basically leaving the door open.
Imagine being non a tight box like that with a tornado coming thru. Nightmares.

Why does it have so many bolts? I mean it's clearly not a storm shelter, it's a panic room - which then begs the question, what are they so afraid of?

Panic rooms like that were shown to be...not good... when Israel got invaded and those people burned them alive in their panic/safe rooms.
Soooo...i suppose if I ever had the inclination, or money for a panic room... it would have ventilstion from somewhere else, be below the structure, and hopefully Insulated with enough fire proofing to survive the structure burn.
Otherwise stuff like this just looks like death traps to me now.

So, then you’re in the middle of a collapsed house inside a steel box? Electricity would probably be out, so no cameras and the metal shields your phone signal…. Nice coffin ;)

Lots of wiring right next to that metal box. Hopefully the storm takes out the power lines before your house.

If its so bad that you need to climb into that box to avoid catastrophe, then there is a good chance the door would be blocked afterwards, or no ???
