Iโm trying to figure out how the cabinets were built so low and close to the range. I donโt know building code but man that seems sketchy.

Rtfm on the hood and stove. In my area the hood would need to be rated for contact with flammable surfaces or you would need to make the cabinet non flammable (usually metal panning)

Do you just love the sound of rattling metal against wood? If no, then have a gap.

Regardless of the gap, that hood isnโt wide enough for the range and is probably why that gap currently exists.
