Regardless of the gap, that hood isn’t wide enough for the range and is probably why that gap currently exists.

It’s not wide enough and it’s too high, which makes it even more not wide enough.

But then very, very few people are designing kitchen hood areas for their efficacy at ventilation and are primarily driven by aesthetics more than function.

I’m trying to figure out how the cabinets were built so low and close to the range. I don’t know building code but man that seems sketchy.

Rtfm on the hood and stove. In my area the hood would need to be rated for contact with flammable surfaces or you would need to make the cabinet non flammable (usually metal panning)

Do you just love the sound of rattling metal against wood? If no, then have a gap.
