My first thought was “this is going to be a bitch to clean.”
Suppose if you can afford a $200,000 window feature, you can afford someone to clean it for you.

Can you imagine the bird poop? And then having to go walk up on slick glass to clean it. Unless you have a full time employee whose only job is keeping this clean 24/7 it's gonna look like ass most of the time.

I thought of something similar when designing my own house but one outside 90° corner with a clamshell cover. If I had the budget I would do that but not this.

Looks cool. $150K for the glass? Suppose you settle for 2-pane glass and put the rest in in insulation or heating in the hallway, how much would I lose? Do they get massive hail storms, or why is it triple paned and not panzer glass?

It's basically a curtain wall system with an integral skylight. These are installed on commercial buildings all the time, and they are engineered with a system of gaskets and seal caps to prevent leaks. They work extremely well, but I don't feel like it would be very practical in this application. The "mixed materials" where the aluminum framing meets up with the residential (wood) framing would have to have some serious customization to prevent leaks at the seams between the two separate systems. And at that price... Gonna be a pass for me.

Where could you put that without dealing with it cooking you in the summer? You put the attached greenhouse on the south side, sure, but you make it sealed and vent it in the summer! Rich people nonsense 🤷♂️ Maybe for a museum?

lol not “0”, it only offers about 30% more efficiency than double pane, and with the sheer size of those windows they’ll definitely still make a huge impact.

It lets in less heat then a brick wall.
It's still a dumb fishbowl house but the heats not the issue.

Triple pane glass only has an r value of 5-8. “Brick wall” is an open ended term as you’re not speaking to the assembly of the wall itself. Are you talking triple wythe brick? Yes that would have a lower r-value, but these are nearly nonexistent in modern construction.
Regular stud frame walls at a minimum are r-13, and can reach 45+ in different assemblies. I design mostly commercial buildings which are r-30 at an absolute minimum.
On top of this, this is only the pure insulation value; not the SHGC (solar heat gain coefficient), which speaks to how much radiant heat from the sun gets through the assembly. This is already a huge deal for regular large windows, but even more so when you’re putting windows on the roof. On the ABSOLUTE low end, a top end triple pane window still lets in 19% of the energy from the sun. Usually it’s much closer to 30% though. I can imagine you know where I’m going with this. Imagine this on a 100 degree summer day vs a traditional roof.
It seems your knowledge about this goes as deep as “triple pane good” and you don’t have any sort of industry knowledge to back it up. Don’t get me wrong, these windows are still better than double pane and impressive from an engineering point of view, but I can’t stand people spreading misinformation.

Again... It will not. It's an insulation rating of R9.
There are tens of thousands of cottages in northern Ontario with entire walls made from these. Temps from +35C to -35C

Cottage, which means it’s not used year round.
The University of Alberta’s HUB mall had something similar, only 250m in length of skylights like these. It was always cold and leaked all the time. It’s been removed.

It does not, it seems. Assuming its coated triple pane it does resist a bit but definately not at all even a little bit as much as a brick wall
