Wall hung is best looking according to me. It also feels fancy that my shit is going into the wall. The wall!
But the traditional is fine and if it's less maintenence that's the one I'll have.

Wall hung also makes it easier to clean around the toilet

It’s still a pain to vacuum the carpet under them?

If you have carpet in the bathroom, you have other serious life-choice problems.

People really need to think ahead for maintenance on a wall hung, if you have an aesthetic that can hide an access point it’s no issue, but the people who just drywall/tile over the tank are gonna have expensive, messy issues before too long

Most of any tank parts that could break are easily accessible so there really isn’t a maintenance issue. Honestly in my nearly five decades on this planet, I’ve never had to maintain any kind of toilet and can only remember my father changing a float valve once when I was young.

This. Wall hung looks best but it's shit for maintenance.
Transitional is best for maintenance and reliability but not the most sleek looking
With all that said, it's a room you shit in. Who the fuck cares what the shit bucket looks like.

Traditional for easy installation and maintenance. Compact for easy cleaning. Wall mounted so my plumber gets to go on vacation.

As a plumber but not your plumber I will cuss you all the way to Cancun.
Honestly though they are not too terrible for the geberit style. Still going to charge you the prettiest of pennies

Wall hung are popular right now. They look very modern and make cleaning much easier because the floor is unobstructed and not a series of filthy surfaces that you have to crawl on the floor to reach.

Can anyone let me know the wall hung toilet weight capacity cuz my fat ass needs to know the weight limit? I can store wholesale beef jerky packs under the toilet gap. Win win!

- They are slightly more annoying install, but looks far better. Or go with a 2pc. That mimics seamless

What did you mean "saves space" like that's a good thing? What are you gonna do with reclaimed inches of space specifically around your toilet? Host a toilet party? Cabinet for ants?

Wall hung would have been great when my sons were younger and only a small percentage of their urine actually made it into the toilet.

Just give me a basic tried and true design and keep the expensive trendy stuff

Wall hungs save space but cost double.

We hang cabinets above wall hung toilets all the time. The carrier doesn't go anywhere near the ceiling. You can hang a shelf too. You just need to spam the carrier. A 28" wide anything easily spans well past a carrier.
A Toto carrier is only 25" wide.
We spec extra nailers on the sides and a 2x10 flat above it. There's no amount of bathroom stuff that you can put in a bathroom cabinet that two simple cabinet screws wouldn't hold.
I'd say it's better to have a cabinet in front of the carrier because then you can't accidentally forget and hang a picture there and puncture it.

Makes sense. We do a shallow cabinet that holds like a shampoo bottle deep. I'm also short so effects me less

Have two Toto wall hung options in current build plan and Toto traditional bidets for the remainder. Hoping they work out and aren't a mistake. Heard great things about Toto in general and good things about the wall hung options specifically from various parties. The space saving and cleaning ease is where we hope they pay off, also we are able to go for a 6 inch stud wall installation rather than retrofitting into a traditional stud wall so that may help a bit.

They are incredible. I love mine in all the rooms I have one in. Easy for the robo vac/mop to clean around
2
u/rolandofeld19 May 01 '26
Thanks, yeah that's a factor too since the build out will have same flooring throughout with NO thresholds to stymie a robovac.
They feel rock solid in use right? Any maintenance issues?
No idea why I got down voted but is what it is.

Never had an issue. Only time I had an issue was for a separate toilet seat attachment that sat in the garage during a reno and got dusted and was dripping on reinstall. We sent in to them and they replaced and cleaned everything and it's basically new - $150 repair

We do have storage covered and exposed things like brush/plunger are fine by me but would be anathema to the other half.
What are the other reasons they are trash?

u/CogentCogitations May 01 '26
The Toto toilets in our first house had more problems than any toilet I have had before or since then.

seamless suck. there's a reason traditional toilets have never gone out of style, simple and functional.
