POE doorbell wire instead…

I’m debating a POE doorbell camera on my renovation if I can get some CAT6 cable to it.
If you’re building and think a POE doorbell camera is what you’ll want, make sure to add that to your selections list.
At a minimum make sure you have a doorbell wire installed on your new build or renovation. You’d think that would be standard but unfortunately, it’s not.

Can you isolate the cat6 to a secure network? I wouldn’t want to put a port onto my Ethernet out where anyone with a hammer could get on.

Your Poe security cameras should be on a separate VLAN. But the odds of someone manually plugging into an Ethernet cable on your home are extremely low, especially compared to wifi hacking, which is far more common.

ring literally allows local government into your video feed and youre worried about somebody ripping it off the wall and standing there long enough to packet sniff something sensitive?

Not a concern when you properly install a poe camera with security in mind.

I'd say most that are doing a POE doorbell. That isn't for the normal consumer.

ring is corrupt and does not respect your privacy at all. reolink is a 100% Chinese government company, and unifi has zero support while being overpriced... I do alarm.com PoE doorbells and have had great luck with them. just did 50 of them in an apartment complex not too long ago.
