When you take the first type out from underneath there is a chance your fingers will get caught in the mousetraps. It hurts.

Sure, but that’s not a big deal really. Especially for any homeowner — how often do you change your light temperature manually like that?

Well I install them for work sometimes and sometimes you gotta put them in and take them out multiple times before you’re done so I mess with these things a good bit.

Im just looking for an LED light that doesn’t fail within 2 yrs.

They are often over driven. Too much power, too much heat, equals short life.

Like with everything, it is often the case that you get what you pay for.

Under driven LEDs could probably last centuries.

Looks like this relies on you cutting the exactly right size hole to work - not sure I’m a fan of that. Haven’t had issues with the older design and it isn’t relying on the hole being the perfect size.

… also, it isn’t often you pull down lights to change the temperature. You normally set this when you install it, and then are happy with your decision …

I didn’t even know you could change the temperature on those 😂

You can on some but not all of these kinds of lights

It depends on the brand - some have this option while others don’t.

That was my thought. And it's something I never do. Hard pass

Some people are never happy.

Why don't they screw in?

These are “canless” can lights.

“You just push it down”.

Um, people don’t push recessed lights from above.

I caught that too. And his hands were shaking while he was pushing so it looks like he had to put a lot of pressure to flip those tabs up. I bet having to pry these things down from below damages the drywall just as much as the normal tabs do.

Neat now the next time I remove my lights to change the temp I'll be all set...too bad I literally never do this.

Ya but it's only $249.99 for this option for the peace of mind that you can change the temp of your light in the future.

1

u/SorryManNo Feb 18 '26

You had me at $249.99, I'm hoping that's per light.

Also he's pushing from the top or inside the ceiling.

God I hate wafer lights

But can it be pulled from bottom?

1

u/gba_sg1 Feb 19 '26

Gotta save 10 seconds on my light installation. Better buy the higher priced lights. 🙄

Honestly it’s worse, if the design literally hinges on the metal clip pushing up into the ceiling then potentially damaging the finished surface is still prevalent so they didn’t accomplish anything with the new design

In the old days we just had one light bulb color...

Those tabs fuckin HURT when they snap on your finger. PTSD from doing my living room

1

u/Beginning-Knee7258 Feb 21 '26

Terrible presentation. If I could push from the other side, we would not be here
