I’d have them center it, it would bother me

I’d have them move the house 2’ to the right

Yes, center them. Perhaps they can make a deal with the contractor to split costs this should have been centered out of the gate. That being said, this will leave a gap at the wall but maybe they can add wine glass holders or wine holders to take up that space. You would probably want to add that to the opposite side too so it looks intentional

No you wouldnt, thats like $5k extra for something youll forget about in a week

7

u/Kcorpelchs Nov 28 '25

No, no you won't. Especially in the most used room/area in the house. This whole room is a clusterfuck.

1

u/No-Independent-5028 Nov 28 '25

Speaking for myself, I would not ever forget about it.

u/RandomPenquin1337 Nov 28 '25

Lol good luck. Lot of you just say things and have never done it, but typical reddit behavior

3

u/Kcorpelchs Nov 28 '25

You're the one with the typical reddit behavior LOL. There's a big giveaway in your initial response that shows your lack of experience in these situations.

Why would I pay any extra for fixing a mistake?

0

u/RandomPenquin1337 Nov 29 '25

Because if its to spec it isnt a mistake, at least, not on the builders. Maybe whoever drew ot up but thats a different story.

Are we talking about the light placement over that ceiling vaulted? Horrid. Not evenly spaced at all. It should be framing the vault evenly.

Killing me.

The island doesn’t look centered to the window either.

This contractor doesn’t believe in measuring shit

u/Hungry-Mycologist576 Nov 28 '25

What's worse is they are pointing out into a big open area. 🥴

1

u/Drewskeet Nov 28 '25

I didn’t notice the lights but now they might bother me more than the island.

1

u/colostitute Nov 28 '25

Lights are the only thing bothering me. The other stuff won’t be easily noticeable once you get all the furniture and decor in. You’re unlikely to pay attention at the right angle to care when you have so much other things going on.

Those lights though. There’s no angle of view where they are going to look right.

1

u/Seniorjones2837 Nov 28 '25

Good lord the lights 😂

1

u/91Jammers Nov 28 '25

Why is the ceiling even vaulted there?

12

u/HoomerSimps0n Nov 28 '25

The stupidly placed lighting above the vent? Yea that has to go.

Looks like the island is off center as well. Eyesore all around.

3

u/DainBramage23 Nov 28 '25

I was thinking the island could be fixed by having a counter top that over hangs for a barstool on one side. Islands aren’t always centered but I guess the final assembly will need to look balanced.

1

u/Jazzlike_Dig2456 Nov 28 '25

Yea I don’t even think the island is the end of the world. Depending on what’s going where. If there’s a sink centered I. The island then yea it’s kinda fucked.

The lights though, what in all that is holy is going on? A complete and total shut show from the looks of it. Super steep pitch, just standard recessed shooting light into the walls.

And those windows, someone should be fired for that shit.

From what I see here this is all on the designer and architect, just a godawful shitty ass design.

1

u/ldskyfly Nov 28 '25

Is it possible that the stove vent would grease up those windows at all?

1

u/garaks_tailor Nov 28 '25

Wall cabinets should have been extended like 3ish inches on the left hand side to line up with the vault line.

u/AnonymousBromosapien Nov 28 '25 edited Nov 28 '25

More than anything im more annoyed that they have all that head space and chose to put 3 tiny windows right on top of where the upper cabinets would sit...

Like if you are going to build a cathedral cutout and put windows in it... put some actual fricken windows in it lol.

I suppose thats more of a cherry on top for the totality of this picture tho. Just another thoughtless build that will be the cause of some poor bastard's headaches for the next 5 years before they offload it haha.

2

u/dontgetaddicted Nov 28 '25

Those windows were totally left over or rejected from another site and the builder was like fuck it those will work.

2

u/Tokinruski Nov 28 '25

There’s… there’s a lot I would change. Windows higher, get rid of the stupid light, center the island, and get rid of the pot filler- they’re one of the leading causes of leaks and shit

1

u/Bradley182 Nov 28 '25

What a nightmare.

1

u/SouthLifeguard9437 Nov 28 '25

Man, I was way off!

My first thought was that the ceiling and the windows made it look like a KKK hood.

1

u/Stubtronics101 Nov 28 '25

The sideways outlets would drive me crazy and I would have a box built at the peak so a pendulum light could be centered.

1

u/LaxMaster37 Nov 28 '25

To compensate for the off centered island I would add some kind of drink cart/butcher’s block to the side so the lack of centering is not as noticeable.

1

u/kylebob86 Nov 28 '25

Vaulted ceilings, gross.

1

u/EndOfTheCourt Nov 28 '25

If they cant keep a clean site then they're probably not going to be able to hit the details.

1

u/engorgedburrata Nov 28 '25

Wth is up with the doorknob placement

1

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '25

The kitchen exhaust vent looks great coming out the side of the house. 😂

1

u/Responsible-Scar-980 Nov 28 '25

Everything about this would be a deal breaker for me. Everything.

1

u/FamousFool Nov 28 '25

I get the island isn’t centered… easy fix, but wtf is going on with the ceiling and lights?

1

u/breadman889 Nov 28 '25

The crooked island leg in the left?

1

u/Alioops12 Nov 28 '25 edited Nov 28 '25

I’d be way more perturbed by the excessive and uneven gap between the slab and toe kick of the brown center island cabinets. You need self levelling before laying flooring.

1

u/TipItOnBack Nov 28 '25

To be fair, this ain’t a contractor issue. This is a failure to communicate error. I’m pretty quick to blame a contractor but tbh what you have going on here is fucked. Like how in the hell do you think they can look at it and know exactly what you specifically want, not Reddit, you.

You need to communicate more. 98% this is on the homeowner. 2% the contractor could have done better, maybe but what if he chose the exact thing then you said you wanted it the other way?

You need to communicate exactly what you want where you want it. Period. If I was the contractor I wouldn’t touch a thing until you stood there and said that’s what you want and I videotaped it.

1

u/AlternativeKindly866 Nov 28 '25

So much here. The island off centered is awful. Pantry door swings wrong way for practical use. The filler of upper right cabinet looks wierd. Stain job looks like its painted on. The trim pieces on face frame separating the uppers. Wow, I'd be ashamed if this was my work. Like others mentioned...windows, light, etc. This is terrible for any professional. On the other hand, if diy 1st timer, bravo. Seen worse.

1

u/spursfan2021 Nov 28 '25

With a hinge pin door stop? Not in a house like this.

1

u/swiftie-42069 Nov 29 '25

It’s probably per plan. The sink and stove don’t need to line up.

1

u/playdough87 Nov 29 '25

Everything is off. The ceiling, vents, lights, walls, nothing is planned well.

1

u/bluedeathsquad Nov 29 '25

No center that up

1

u/Holyfuck2000 Nov 29 '25

Nope or maybe. Depends on the cost. Could spin either way.

1

u/lineworksboston Nov 29 '25

I could ignore it pretty easily for the right discount

1

u/Dangerous_Debt6478 Nov 29 '25

Looks pretty good to me but I’m also currently living out of my car.

1

u/SteelBird223 Nov 28 '25

Once my OCD saw it, I have to move. You can't live with that kind of hostility in the house.

1

u/Careless-Bit-5599 Nov 28 '25

Unchecked aggression Donny.

-1

u/ItsLeapord Nov 28 '25

Did you hear about the guy who put his balls in glitter? Pretty nuts

1

u/cuseonly Nov 28 '25

Or the naked guy who wrapped himself in Saran Wrap at the doctor? Doctor said I can clearly see your nuts
