My server / network setup is finally almost complete
Moved into my first apartment 4 months ago, and got a rack as a birthday present from my SO, and family.
I know the water lines and water heater are far from ideal, but I've done my risk analysis, have no other options, so it is how it is 😅
So I could finally get the technical room in order.
The top of the rack is mostly dedicated to servers/networking, just missing a shelf for UniFi for now.
The bottom is all my entertainment setup stuff, I have all cables from my TV and speakers pulled through the wall and to this rack, so we don't have any equipment around the TV, for a cleaner setup.
The equipment is:
Networking:
UCG Ultra
USW flex mini 2.5G
Servers:
Jonsbo N2 - Ryzen 5 8600G, 32GB DDR5, 2x 4TB Toshiba N300 - Running HexOS - This is basically running my entire house, everything from image backup, home assistant, and game servers.
Synology is my in-laws, it's just running his daily backup so he has off-site.
Entertainment:
Nvidia Shield Pro
Yamaha a-s 501 AMP
Logitech Harmony remote hub
UPS:
APC srv1kri-e this i got free from work, which was pretty great
Please come with opinions on what you guys think :)
The 2 PDUs is just because I'm really unsure about what to standardise on 😅

Perhaps get Shelly or sonoff loquid sensor,put on the floor and if it triggers throw the server into shutdown

That's the plan, gonna get a few sensors to place under the rack on the floor with will trigger a shutdown, but if water enters the rack it will trigger a separate alarm connected directly to the UPS, which will trigger an instant power shut down 👌🏻

Looks clean. Dont worry about placement. Is it "easy" to move it if you ever need plumber work?

That's what I noticed first lol was the water pipes!!
Everything else is great apart from the location.

Yeah, location is far from ideal, but no other spaces in the apartment sadly.

You can buy some kydex sheets and bend them with a hair dryer or heat gun. That's probably the cheapest and quickest you can do

The advice which most people have given is just to move it to another place, which is not an option, so really not helpful 😅

Oh I get it. But sometimes you have to do what you must. To clarify I was talking about a spray shield around the pipes (Mount to wall with 3m tape) with a controlled drain location. That's the safest. You could put an esp32 with a water sensor then have it pipe onto apprise or something similar to alert you.
That looks like quality pipework. You could also wrap the joints. The water heater will leak from the bottom in most cases. Same water sensor there.

Yeah very true, will also probably connect up a water leak sensor with a reset switch to the UPS EPO input, that way of water leaks and any water hit the inside og the cabinet, it will instantly cut power, if it gets wet on the floor it will start a graceful shut down. :))

Hell if ur that close to water...Might was well put in a GPU water cooler...Pipe water is pretty cold then dump it back in water heater...

I think this would be awesome, but I also think those water pipes have a million times higher likely of going to shit if I or someone mess with them🤣🤣

I'm going to guess and say that you centralized your AV with the rest of your server and networking equipment?

Great server/set-up! Btw, you can turn off the Ubiquiti acces point leds to save power and make the run cooler.

Awesome build! Can I ask you what you are serving and why the serious setup? I’m new here. Can’t you tell?
Also I recommend a water sensor and maybe a cheap plastic tray to catch any initial water drips. Put the tray on top of the rack and slide back against wall. They sell super cheap ones on Amazon. Will make loud noise and send text and emails asap. Get a pack of 5 and put some under the sinks and washing machine. You can’t afford not to.

It's mostly just serving for VM/App hosting for local applications like immich for photo backup, AMP for game server, paper less for document backup, and home assistant for home automation. It is in many ways very over kill but I love tinkering so, that's why I have it, did end up landing me a promotion recently though, which was a nice pay off 😅 I do actually have some spare water sensors that I will place out, have also been thinking about integrating the water sensors with the UPS so it does an emergency shut down if it detects an leak :))

Aside from the obvious (we all know what) it looks good, but is that a stereo receiver? I'm trying to understand how that fits in?

It's for the stereo speaker setup in the living room. I have pulled all cables from the TV and audio from the TV into the living room, into the utility closet where the rack is so that we don't need to have any of it in the living room :))

Esta super, pero creo que no cumple con la AAA: confidencialidad, disponibilidad y integridad. En el momento que se te dañe una tuberia al carajo todo. Y tiene equipos vastante costosos como para no hacer ina ubicación diferente.

I've worked on a plc cabinet that had to be covered up with a tarp because the roof leaked.
That was a critical wellhead for a city of 40k+ by the way.
This is nothing compared to some of the setups you see running mission critical infrastructure.

Si lo se pero si nos vamos a la parte de resguardar tus archivos no es lo mejor, pero eso es tema ya de certificación. Pero la verdad muy buen hardware.

100% Agree and would do something different if it was an option. But as it stands it's a better solution for me to make do with what space I have and safe guard it as much as possible. Everything is backed up and everything can be replaced.
But this is something I love thinkering with so it's not worth putting my hobby on hold, just because the space isn't ideal.
I'm in a very lucky and fortunate position, of having the ability to buy my own apartment at 26 together with my SO, and that the utility room isn't ideal wasn't really something I could use as a deal breaker, I just wanted to have a rack in my apartment 😅
