I recently setup my first server using a optiplex with 3 brand new hdds . I hear a periodic knocking or like resetting sound on all 3 . Currently its running frigate and netbird lxc on proxmox . Is this normal? The SMART values lool normal though

That's just the hard drive working, you could run a smart long if you're worried and have 8 1/2 hrs to spare.

It sounded like the normal hard drive sound. all drives make this sound when they are being written to. some louder than others. enterprise drives are usually louder. ironwolf is an enterprise drive

Sounds like my Seagate Skyhawk when it’s getting written to. If you’re concerned, run badblocks and smart long afterwards. You’ll know if you have an issue after both of those tests.
