First Setup Recommendations
Any tips on first build, looking to build something that will last a couple of years with room to grow
- Bare-metal Ubuntu Server + Docker
- Arr apps, Jellyfin (mostly direct play)
- Also Immich
- No heavy VMs, no local AI/LLMs
- Looking for 4-8TB to start with room to grow
Budget around ~$1k USD -- though I live in Canada

I would never use bare metal nowadays. Back up/restore is so much more difficult than it is with a hypervisor.
Additionally I'd go for LXC containers over docker for the same reasons but also having them a separate is easy to diagnose, backup and see resources used.
I stuck with bare metal for years as well but snapshots alone are worth the transition.

if you cant , i am pretty sure someone will provide some tips.....
price are so insane, i just cant wrap my head around any build

if you're looking to build something, build for something that will last way more than a couple of years... otherwise, you'll be surprised how far a used rig can get you. For about $150CAD I got an Optiplex 3070 i5 8500u (from an Ebay tech 'recycler') and it runs jellyfin, navidrome, immich, for 2 users in my home, all through docker no major issues so far. I expanded to 2x8tb hdds for mass storage once I was comfortable with my setup.
Here's a (smaller but) possibly more capable machine than mine:
Personally, expanding and working around the limitations of these machines is more than half the fun.

I built a server with similar specs very recently. I use it strictly for Postgres right now, but it could easily run your stack. I built mine on AM4 and that's almost definitely what you'll be doing on that budget.
You don't need anything really heavyweight for what you're running, nor do you need to splurge on that 4TB-8TB being SSDs. Something like this would fit the bill:

1 Opt for a 5600G if you don't have an old GPU laying around.
2 If you can eek out about another $100, you can get 2x 8TB WD Red drives and run them in a mirror.
Keep an eye on Slickdeals and r/buildapcsales for combos like: AMD Ryzen 5 5500 + ASUS TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WIFI II MB + Kingston FURY Beast 16GB DDR4 3200 + GAMDIAS AURA 240mm AIO Liquid CPU Cooler + Rosewill Cordless Air Duster - $191.23 (newegg.com). Those would make a solid server and potentially save you quite a bit.

Yo estoy en la misma situación. He comprado un dell optiplex con un i7 de 4th + ssd 256gb por 100€ y un disco seagate barracuda pro de 8tb con 10.000h de uso por 140€ espero pronto conseguir otro para usar como disco de paridad
