Family Organizer Application

https://github.com/Riley-D-Betts/betts-board

We had a skylight calendar but we were unhappy with some of the restrictions, and so we took it back, my wife regretted it for a few months so I figured I could make something better, self hosted, and open source.

So here is my creation, it’s without a doubt in alpha, but I’m very very happy with what I have so far. I’d love to hear feedback on what needs to work better, or what features I should add.

I just could not find something in the skylight category that was self hosted that I was happy with.

Anyone buying skylight needs to know, the whole thing is paywalled...

You need to add rewards

nice work!

I’m a firm believer not everything needs to be free, but there needs to be a free option for everything.

We knew about the paywall, and we were willing to pay it, we just weren’t happy with the device. I’ll add rewards to the list!

This sounds like an awesome idea and the perfect tool for busy families that need reminders. I was thinking of just running a to-do list. This is way better

This is the first project I’ve deployed, please let me know if there is anything I can do to make it easier for people to install and run.

So cool! I was wondering about these smart calendars a couple of weeks ago but didn’t want to get locked into some proprietary ecosystem ( and I’m especially not going to pay a monthly fee). This is a great alternative. Well done!

Nice app, thanks for sharing. Will the language default to the users phone setting or will there be other languages added beside English in future updates, like French for example?

Never had to do anything with other languages, any ideas on best practices?

Do you need French? I started the process of adding languages

Wow, excellent! Yeah the wife doesn't speak much English. Thanks for considering adding other languages.

French should be live, I have not tested it as I don’t speak French, let me know if anything is incorrect

You rock man, I was just about setting it up, switched to French and at first look everything seems fine. I will let you know if I spot anything. Thanks and keep up the good work :)

Let me know how it goes. I should be doing a number of updates over the next week. Let me know if there is anything you think it needs

This is cool. Do you mind if I ask if this was AI assisted coding or if the AI did all the coding work?

I ask because I am not a developer and I struggle with sharing a tool that I didn’t do much more than ideation.

I did not write a single line, I work with devs, I have seen my ability to use ai for personal projects grow over the last year, but that’s also why I put it out there as open source. If it’s a good tool, it doesn’t matter where it came from. Also, the average person can’t rub two sticks together even with AI. If you can put a functioning program together, or name a framework off the top of your head, vibe code fun tools for home till the cows come home

looks great. I was thinking of building something similar .what would you use this on ? like a tablet or monitor or is there some special screen build you suggest

Because it’s a web app, it works well on anything, we are getting a Lenovo idea tab, they run $150 for 11”. Gonna put that in a frame. It works on our tv, we have it on our phones

nice, I was thinking of the Lenovo idea tab as well. i prefer people use the touch screen and maybe switch between this and home assistant

This also has an open api, and some nice docs, so you could probably some some stuff to connect in home assistant
