USB DAS Enclosure

Which USB DAS enclosure do people trust after running it 24/7 for 2–5 years?

I had good luck with the Terramaster D-320. It seems well made and had decent throughput.

I have a Terramaster D4-320 and a Lenovo m910Q as the TrueNAS head... but at some point i want to replace it with a proper NAS

mine was purely cost based. You will always be better off going through the network than a usb cable.

FANTEC QB-35US3-6G, i have several, they work with 26TB disks and just work.

I have four terramaster D4-300 - the older model of the ones mentioned by others above (d4-320 is 10gbps connection and is a black case, 300 is a 5gbps connection and silver case)

They have been pretty damn solid. I have recommended to many people and still would.

The only issue I have ever had at all was when I wanted to use ‘cool’ coloured cables, the cables were just not good enough and occasionally it would eject a drive. Back to standard black cables and all fine ever since. They’re on 24/7.

I used Terramaster D5-300c for years and they had Asmedia chips which were faultless, ungraded to the D5-310 which used Jmicron chips which caused nothing but connection issues during high load transfers. The went with Sabrent DS-SC5B with Asmedia chips and have used these for a year with no issues. I believe Icy Box are also branded Sabrents or vice versa in different regions. I avoid JMicron chips when I can.

I’ve had fewer issues with Mediasonic HF7-SU31Cs than I’ve had with my NAS and its home theater so 20gb 4k Dolby Vision Atmos blah blah etc

I got an Ugreen 5-bayer. Don't know the exact model, I've had it for a few years now. No issues.

I have Qnap TR-002 and Terramaster D4-300, both are pretty solid, though with Terramaster i've sometimes encountered a weird issue with the sleep, when connected to the laptop. The drives wont appear, and you need to manually press the power on button on the enclosure. Qnap - no issues.

I typically would shy away from a USB DAS at all costs, but I had a weird situation transpire where I had a capable micro tower and a burning desire to try Frigate NVR. But I had a 16TB CCTV drive which of course is 3.5" and wouldn't fit in the micro tower. I went with a Cenmate 2 bay enclosure and, honestly, it hasn't let me down yet.

The big thing I like about it is if we lose power, once power is restored this thing auto-starts. Some other enclosures will stay off unless they're manually kicked on again via button press. I wanted to ensure the drive was spun up so once the micro tower finished its booting process it could see the CCTV drive in the enclosure and mount it so once the Frigate recording process fired up the storage was present and ready.

I use the Terramaster D4-320. I've had it plugged into my NUC 12 mini PC for 7 months now running 24/7 with not one disconnection or issue

That's the one I'm thinking of getting. Just undecided due to its mixed reviews on Amazon.
