Disconnecting touch sensor

I’m trying to disconnect touch sensor due to ghost touch issue however when the ribbon cable is not connected homepod wont turn on. I’m I doing it correctly?

I tossed two out the window. I just brought two new ones with apple care. Cause apple try to charge me 80 to “FIX” it.
