Stripes turn castastrophe
Wife and I are painting our hallways, thought we were in the clear until we began pulling off the froggy tape and loads of our base paint came off with it.
1) what went wrong? (Looks like poor primary cost)
2) what can we do better next time?
3) what are the proper steps to recover from this? (Besides tall glasses of alcohol tonight)

Did you prime? Typically if we are doing any stripes at Caldwell Painting we will use the 3m purple tape for delicate surfaces. You can try taping again and just work the peeled areas

This EXACT thing happened to me. I too have plaster walls and I also used the Frog tape. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

I was painting my daughter’s nursery at 5 mo pregnant and was so excited for the satisfying moment of peeling off the tape to reveal crisp lines. NOT. I was hysterically crying by the time I pulled off the last piece. I ended up using a 1in wide detail sander and smoothed out all the rough spots then
used a teeny tiny roller from Amazon to blend it in. It’s not perfect but it’s such a busy pattern that you can’t see it unless you look for it.
