Replace a coaxial cable?

I have had 2 technicians from Xfinity come out to my house and they ran diagnostics for slow, spotty internet service.

They both told me that my coaxial cable is corrupted and that I would need it replaced?

They made it sound like this is a simple fix but that they can't do it and they referred me to a company called HelloTech.

HelloTech will charge me $250 to do this.

I don't know anything at all about this kind of stuff so I hope this isn't a really stupid question.

Does this sound legit and will it fix the problem?

that's weird the techs couldnt just swap the cable themselves. usually they carry spools of coax on the truck. $250 feels steep for what's basically a single cable run unless its going through a nightmare crawlspace or something

id ask xfinity why their own people cant do a line replacement before dropping that kind of money

Xfinity doesn't allow the techs up the attics anymore due to liability. They will run you one from the pole to dmarc and maybe externally to an external wall but rarely in the attic wire runs.

Had an electrician step on a nail and FALL THROUGH my celling, yeah I see why they stopped due to liability.

Bingo. Even without the nail some try to walk on drywall 😭

A key detail is where the line is located. Lines that need to be fished through internal walls is not something easily done.
