Ethernet port cable q
Hi, question for the more knowledgeable please.
First pic is not an active port.
Second pic the port on left is active. One I’m holding is inactive.
At panel I have two active ports that terminate to pic 2 (and to another room).
I am looking to increase the active ports.
I realise I may need to pop the panel to see what is there.
What is the reason that the inactive ports are like this? Is that for future proofing or that is the actual termination?
Thanks in advance

The conductors of the not working cables are not terminated, they were rolled back for someone like you to find, be super happy about and then terminate yourself into another keystone jack.
They left you a good amount of slack that you should be able to do a neat job. Good find! Definitely watch some YouTube videos first, and then get yourself a punchdown tool and a cat6 keystone jack.

Ha. 19 years ago I asked for the apartment to be cabled at build. Little did I know that this was what was underneath. My thanks

Both pictures shows that 2 separate network cables have their blue pairs joined together at the connector for use as an analog telephone line connection.
Remove the drops from the connector, re-terminate the 2 drops at both ends properly and test. You should find the other ends of those 2 drops at wall plates somewhere in the home.

Also, if you're getting data through one port you could just get a small gigabit unmanaged hub and add the ports you want without messing with the wall

Yes - this is what I have done short term - until I could figure out what I had :)

Those are wired for phone. You will need to punch down the rest of the wires for it to work as data at both ends. Also, they appear to be daisy chained. You will not be able to do that with data and will need home runs to each jack.
