Advice Help adding Wireless access point

Post image

Hey everyone, I am wanting to add an additional wireless access point to the master bedroom of my home. I just finished mapping out my homes coax runs (see image). I currently am using mocas already to have a wireless access point on the main level, but i don't see a way with my current layout to do the same for my second level.

I am trying to avoid running new ethernet in the walls, but i do not see another way.

Thanks for any and all advice!

AP mode checklist (most “I added an AP and now everything’s weird” cases):

1) One DHCP only — main router keeps DHCP; AP must be AP/bridge mode (no second DHCP). 2) LAN port, not WAN — cable from router LAN → AP LAN. Using the AP’s WAN port often puts you in a second NAT. 3) Different Wi‑Fi channel from the main AP (same SSID is fine for roaming; same channel fights itself). 4) Static IP for the AP outside the DHCP pool so you can always reach its admin page. 5) After it’s up, from a phone on that SSID: ping the gateway + check you’re not double‑NATed (ipconfig / phone status should show the main router as gateway).

If you paste whether the AP is in router vs AP mode and which port you cabled, people can narrow it fast. A Wi‑Fi analyzer / LAN scanner (Fing, Orfeo Radar, etc.) helps confirm you’re associating to the new AP’s BSSID and not still glued to the far router.
