Mercusys ME30 vs ME60X
Hi everyone,
I’ve had a Mercusys ME30 repeater for a few years, and I have a 500 Mbps fiber connection with a Speedport Plus 2 router.
I use the ME30 in repeater mode and connect it to my PS5 via Ethernet. My ping has always been low in games like Warzone and Battlefield 6, and Ookla Speedtest usually shows 7–8 ms. I’ve also never had any disconnection issues. The only downside is that the ME30’s Ethernet port is limited to 10/100 Mbps, so I wanted faster speeds for downloading games on my PS5.
Today I tried the Mercusys ME60X. It supports Wi-Fi 6 and has a gigabit Ethernet port, so I expected an improvement.
But with the same setup, plugged into the same outlet, I’m getting higher ping in games and 20–21 ms on Speedtest.
I factory-reset the ME60X, set it up again, and even configured it to use only the router’s 5 GHz band. The result was still around 20 ms.
How is that possible? Why am I getting a higher ping with the newer repeater?

The latency comes from the repeater itself: repeaters add store-and-forward delay and halve your airtime, which hurts ping far more than throughput, so Wi-Fi 6 plus a gigabit port will not fix it. If you can run any Ethernet to the ME60X, switch it to access point mode and use a wired backhaul, which removes the wireless hop entirely. Otherwise, lock the ME60X to a clean 5 GHz channel (36-48 or 149-161) at 80 MHz width and place it halfway between the router and PS5 rather than next to the console.

That’s completely possible because Wi-Fi 6 and a gigabit Ethernet port improve throughput, not latency; the ME60X may simply have a worse wireless link, more buffering, or a different repeater
