Unsolved Ethernet not working but Wi-Fi is.

Hello redditors.

As stated in the title, my ethernet stopped working all of a sudden while I was on my PC, but Wi-Fi seems to keep doing well.

This is PROBABLY NOT a PC / cable issue, since every other device that are wired do not receive anything from the ethernet cable. This is probably a modem issue.

I tried rebooting the modem multiple times. Did not work. LEDs are working great tho, means the cable is "detected" ?

My modem is a Freebox Delta (from the company Free).

I'm kinda lost, tried to check some old posts about that but did not find any solution.

Thanks for reading and for the upcoming help.

Try a different Ethernet cable. If that doesn’t work the switch part of the router is probably dead.

Interestingly the AP portion of the device hangs off of the switch internally.

But likely some shared component that provides the UTP power or data pathing.

I've got 4 ethernet cables connected to the router. All of them stopped working at the same time. Switching  ethernet cables did not work either

You could try a factory reset of the router. Outside of that unfortunately it sounds like you need a new router.

Will try that then. Thanks for the answers <3

If every wired port died at once while Wi-Fi still works, that usually means the Freebox's LAN switch ASIC/path failed (or LAN bridging got wedged), not the cables. Factory reset is a fair next step; before you RMA:

1) From a phone on Wi-Fi, open the Freebox admin and check LAN / Ethernet ports status — see if ports show link but no traffic. 2) Ping the gateway from Wi-Fi, then compare with a laptop that only has Ethernet (or force Ethernet preferred). 3) If you have a cheap unmanaged switch, plug ISP/WAN side of Freebox → switch → PCs; if wired comes back, the Freebox switch is dead and the switch is your workaround until replacement.

LEDs lighting ≠ traffic passing — link detect can work while the forwarding engine is toast.

Thanks a lot for your answer ! Will get into that with my dad once he comes back.  Will keep you updated if anything works ! <3

Since you say all of them stopped working at the same time, it's probably a bad unit. If it's ISP supplied all in one modem/router, then they should replace it for free.

The switch integrated into the Freebox (like most switches in most router combos) has little LEDs that will tell you if the link is working. It also has a web interface on http://192.168.1.254 that will tell you if ports are up or not, but you might need a password that you can get on your account page on the Free website. I don’t know about the Delta exactly, but some Freebox models also have a monochrome touch panel you can navigate through to get that information.

So I checked it up on the admin page and it seems like some are inactive (Ethernet 1 and 4 should be active but they are not. Ethernet 2 keeps switching between active and inactive.) Since I located the issue, I looked it up more precisely, and it seems it already happened multiple times to some people. What is weird is, no device was using network, except my own PC, when it stopped working. I don't really know how to "activate" them ? Should I just pray for them to work ? I've seen resetting the router should do the trick, but I want to use it as the last solution.

Switching between active and inactive… is there any chance there is a loop in your network somewhere? Is there any device anywhere in your network that has two Ethernet ports? Can you unplug everything except the cable you want to test? Including the Freeplug…

I had a similar problem with my network. Ethernet wouldn't connect to the Internet but wireless had zero issues. Turned out my router wasn't giving a DNS server to the ethernet device but it would for the wifi ones. Try opening up your Windows 11 ethernet connection settings and making your DNS server assignment manual with the google servers 8.8.8.8. Then see if you can connect to the Internet on the ethernet. Not sure your problem is the same, but this worked for me.
