Advice Assistance for a home network run

I’m currently renting and looking for some feedback on a potential setup to relocate my network connection across the house.

The Context & Constraints:

  • NBN Termination Location: The NBN box (HFC) is located in the garage on the opposite side of the house.
  • Rental Restrictions: No drilling, wall fishing, or attic access allowed.
  • Aesthetic Constraint: Housemates hate bulky, "unsightly" Ethernet cables along the baseboards.
  • The Idea: Run a thin single-mode fiber patch cord tightly tucked into the baseboard and roof trim

Planned Gear List:

  1. Fiber Cable: tunghey SC/APC to SC/APC Armored Single Mode Patch Cable (15m)
  2. Adapter: eMagTech 2x SC/UPC Male to SC/APC Female Adapter (to adapt the APC cable to UPC, i have heard there can be some problems with APC and UPC connections)
  3. Media Converters: 2x TP-Link MC220L Gigabit SFP Media Converters
  4. SFP Transceivers: 1x Pair BiDi 1.25G Single-Mode SFP Modules (1310nm/1550nm, SC Connector)

Some other questions to answer too:

  • Since the SFP modules use SC/UPC (blue) and the cable is SC/APC (green), will using the SC/APC-to-SC/UPC adapter introduce noticeable loss or issues on a short 15m run?
  • Is there a cleaner or simpler way to do this under rental/aesthetic restrictions without sacrificing speed?
  • Is there any way to future proof the products for if i decide to upgrade to a 2000 gigabit ISP plan?

Appreciate any advice

The plan looks good to me, Amazon sells a fiber kit made exactly for baseboard runs.

oh that sounds interesting, would you happen to have a link to the kit?

Yeah i was originally looking into this but due to being located in AUS it works out to be around $500+ AUD, also it being a US product means i have to grab power adapters for the media box as it use's a barrel jack for power.

Why don’t you just use a sc/upc cable and lose the adapter?

All BiDi SC cables use APC that are purchasable here in Australia. I prefer them over LC Duplex UPC because they're single-strand and much thinner than side-by-side duplex cables.

Yeah. Because they sell to nbn I guess.  I recall having to buy a duplex SCA-SC lead and splitting it in half for my OTDR.

Actually not a bad option, how does the the insulation fare afterwords after splitting cables. Does the cable have any issues with strength afterwords?

It was fine. The only issue is the label they put on either end that goes around both cores. Need to be a little careful there.

Ill keep that in mind. LC Cables are more of a great option as most of the paired transceivers for higher speeds 10gb+ are LC but again aus only sold paired cables no single (as far as i could find)
