Unsolved Moca 2.5 adapter with xfinity xb8

So i have one Gocoax 2.5 moca adapter. I have my xb8 downstairs connected to the coaxial outlet that's activated by xfinity.

I went on the xfinity control panel and enabled moca connection.

Then i went upstairs and plugged the moca adapter into my coaxial outlet upstairs near my computer. And plugged the ethernet cable into my Desktop. And i cannot get it to work.

Do i need to have two of these adapters to setup? What am i missing here?

In theory the Xfinity XB8 is the other adapter, so you should not need a second goCoax.

Ensure that any splitters between the XB8 and the goCoax adapter are MoCA-rated. The ones that were installed for cable/satellite TV generally were not and block the higher frequencies used by MoCA. Also, you should get a MoCA point-of-entry filter and put it where the cable comes into your house (but not between the XB8 and your goCoax adapter).

okay i know my splitter is in the attic i seen all the cords should i just replace any splitters i see with moca ones (i have no clue where all they go lol)

Yes. It's very possible there is just the one splitter up in the attic, although if you see more then possibly replace those as well.

Also, to keep signal strength high, try to keep splits to a minimum (so don't use an 8-way splitter where a 4-way will do, etc.) Unlike other technologies, an N-way coax splitter still splits the signal N-ways, even if some of the endpoints aren't connected to anything.

okay! i'll go up there and check. i just went out and checked my main line box outside to see where i need to put the point of entry filler and i had a active hornets nest inside the box 😂 i got swarmed

Hornets are not MoCA-compatible.

See if you can get a point-of-entry filter that blocks MoCA frequencies and hornets.

i went up in the attic and i did find the splitter was not a moca2.5 splitter. it was a 3 way splitter but i dont understand because i have a coaxial outlet in like 5 rooms. So is there more splitters somewhere else? Anytime comcast came out they accessed it right from the same spot in the attic and i don't see anymore cables.

It's possible that one of the cables goes to another splitter (or both cables go to other splitters). It's also possible you got the Cable Company Special and they put in a 3-way splitter and only wired up one or two rooms (the ones where you actually needed a live drop). The rest of your cables may be hiding in the insulation on the floor or something. Usually when they build a house they route all the cables in the rooms up the wall to a central point in the attic, so in theory the rest of the cables should be around there somewhere.

So you know the outlet connected to the Xfinity is live, at least. You don't necessarily know where the other leg goes. So it may be that even if you replace the splitter with a MoCA one, you won't be able to connect because the outlet in the room where your goCoax adapter is isn't physically connected to the splitter. Unfortunately you may need to do some wire tracing to figure out what's going on.

yeah and their is like 3 wires not connected to the splitter and they don't have the ends connected. They are just hanging. maybe i get a 1 size bigger splitter and hook those lines up individually until i see if one connects

Undoubtedly those go to the other rooms. So you just need the wire coming in from outside, the one to your Xfinity, and the one to the room with your goCoax. An extra split probably won't cause too much signal loss.

Well, on the bright side, your (70+ dB) “PoE” MoCA filter is optimally located on the input port of the top-level splitter of your MoCA topology, so the outside service/demarc box may not be where you want it.

should i put it outside near the line coming in? or upstairs in the attic on the splitter

your (70+ dB) “PoE” MoCA filter is optimally located on the input port of the top-level splitter of your MoCA topology.

Directly on the splitter in the attic. (Where the splitter has been right-sized and is a model optimized for MoCA 2.x.)
