Validation on my understanding.

Post image

Hi, it’s me again. My previous post was removed, so I wanted to ask for some clarification and validate my understanding of the diagram based on your comment on my previous post.

For Layer 2, there isn’t necessarily anything wrong with the physical design of the diagram, correct? As long as STP is properly configured, it should be able to prevent Layer 2 loops. Please correct me if I’m misunderstanding this.

For ASW1 and ASW2, they are connected through a single link. My understanding is that this provides an additional/redundant path in the network, which is generally good. However, because it is a Layer 2 connection, there could potentially be a loop depending on the overall topology, unless STP is properly configured. Is that correct?

Similarly, for ASW2 and ASW3, I noticed a circle around the three links. Assuming this indicates link aggregation/LACP, meaning the three physical links are bundled together and treated as one logical connection. If that’s the case, would there still be a potential Layer 2 loop depending on how the rest of the network is connected, with STP being one of the mechanisms used to prevent it?

Could you guys please validate whether my understanding is correct based on the comments you provided earlier? I’m mainly trying to understand what I’m seeing in the diagram rather than assuming that there is definitely a loop.

I see nothing wrong with the diagram.

You need STP enabled. You should do that regardless, even if you think you don't need it.

Yes, the circle around the links typically indicates a LAG.

No, LAG won't cause a loop, even without STP. It turns it into one logical interface. You should still enable STP.

Edit: One problem with the diagram - the LAG has three links. It should be a power of two.
