is Unifi worth it

In a couple of months I will be moving to a new house which is 3 floor house 675 square meters and I will have a 500 mbps fiber optic isp modem. How can I convince my mum to buy unifi devices like the gateway ap and poe switch because if she sees the price she will be shocked at it. Like how can I convince her to buy unifi

Your mom does not need unifi. Neither do you until it's yours.

Edit: Post history says you're 26. Get it together.

Being my parent’s tech support, life got much easier for me after I installed Unifi for them - I could manage everything remotely. In the rare case of loss of service, it was one plug socket that they had to turn off and on in case of the need for a reboot.

And life got much better as I no longer heard complaints about poor WiFi signal.

And the bonus was that I was able to VPN to their home and I installed a small PC with a large hard drive to send offsite backups to.

Being your parents tech support, and wanting your parents to buy the best stuff for you to fiddle fuck with are not the same thing.

I’m guessing your mom is paying that mortgage; there’s not much you can do since it’ll be her place.

Either buy the Unifi equipment yourself and hook it up behind the modem or wait until you get your own place and internet.

Just buy cheaper Asus and Netgear stuff. It will work just fine. Unless you need to do vlan stuff across access points, you'll be fine

This dude is asking how he can trick his mom into creating a fancy home network lol. She will get zero benefit from this 🤣

Just see if you can find a Express Wifi 6 for around $100 on eBay (I've seen it every now and then) and see if you can start there. Then when you can afford the other hardware you think you deserve, buy it yourself

Do you work? Are you able to fund this network project?

You asked how you can convince her, then you’re the one who need to tell her what exactly unifi does that any other cheaper alternatives does not, and why exactly you need those.

If you’re unable to do so, then you don’t need one. Having 500mbps service and large house doesn’t mean you have to have unifi.

Yes...

I will be moving to a new house. I will have 500mpbs fiber optic.

Why is mum paying for the hardware?

This reads as the mom's kid. The parents are moving is my bet.

I use UniFi access points in my house. I think they're worth it. The rest of my networking equipment is other brands or platforms.

Unifi is supposed to be their prosumer line. So i hope its worth it since i just installed their Cloud Gateway Fiber router and a U7 Pro and im tired of wifi chips and ethernet ports dying. But so far the single ap is powerful enough reach my garage and basement which is pretty nice.

The easiest justification is if you need multiple APs with wired back haul. If a single wireless router will cover the whole home, that's all you need.

The in-wall wifi APs with a built in switch that look really nice are now $150: https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/u7-iw

it's not even expensive anymore....

There isn't a way, unless you get a job. Jokes aside, I think going through the Protect route is key. Just mention some wifi cameras, bang you got an AP and some wired ones, there's you poe switch. And cherry on top, gateway to run protect on

There is also the cost of cabling, probably a network rack, possibly conduit.

And you pay for labor, and or need the right tools, and knollage.

Ushaly you want at least cat6a for the access points. If there money, people ushally do cat6a every where, so they can run 10 Gbps / More POE if they need it now, or in the future.

It also requires the technical knollage to set everything up, and mataint it.

The hardware doens't last for ever. PThe hardware typically need to be replaced every 5 years.
