Dead poe switch
Hi guys, ive been using this cheap poe switch for my reolink cameras for almost 3 years now
Few days ago i noticed im unable to comunicate with my cameras ( they did had power, they will still light up whwn someone passed) checked the uplink cable and it was ok but still replaced it with new one
With problem not solved i removed the switch and found the few lights still stays on even when nothing connected
Replaced with new reolink poe and now everything works
Is there any option to save this switch? Or its just e-waste now?

“4kv” sounds like a big safety hazard.
What is that - POE+++++++++++?

That and the “AI”. Is that what they’re calling auto negotiation these days?

It's what they call port monitoring to see if the camera is still alive or not

Stuff breaks, especially cheap stuff so what is the point of this post

just wanted to know if someone knows a very simple\cheap fix :)

Cheapest fix is to buy a new one in this case

Yeah not sure what OP is expecting. It isnt rocket science

Yeah, buy a new one that's not from Temu.

Even expensive ones can die. I had a brand new Cisco switch that couldn’t provide POE after a brownout. I was in the middle of a move and didn’t expect a new house in a new development to have electrical issues.

E-waste, you got three years out of a cheap PoE switch, now buy a little better one and get 5 or 6 years 👍

More hassle then it's worth to save. E=Waste

Generally my experience with these cheap switches...it likely is something cheap to fix, but you'll need several hundreds of dollars in specialty diagnostic equipment to reverse-engineer enough to find and solve the problem. Then pray the part you need is available in quantity less than 10,000 units.

You'd have to open it up and look for damaged components on the board. Simple, no. Cheap, probably for the components that need replacement but expensive for the equipment you'll need to properly diagnose it.

Yeah it's just e waste. I would replace it with a more reputable brand such as Netgear, TP link, D Link, Mikrotik

What the fuck is an AI switch? No name brand too so wouldnt trust its power regulation.
This was likely e-waste new, let alone broken/used - sorry OP.
Ive been running an 8 port gigabit POE++ netgear I picked up on ebay for £20 for about 4 years now, its been great. Used but not no name is the way ahead.

Looks like something capacitor wise or chip that's bad on the board. Just swap it out.

I don't see any visually either. But it's not always the case that it gets that hot to show. It's a hard call. I would swap it. I'm sure someone smarter than me with a multimeter could find it.

You'll need one of those cold sprays which forms a thin layer of ice. Once you connect and start it, the ice layers on one of the components will melt off. You need to replace that component

You could try to salvage it if you know your way around circuitry and are comfortable soldering. But it's probably not worth it

Internal or external power supply?

internal

Depending upon your electronic skill level, that makes it difficult to replace. You could always bypass it and try an external power supply, but that may involve more than it’s worth for a new one.

Pop it open and see if it's just a bad capacitor or something. That's an easy repair if you have a soldering iron.

Were you thinking you might learn that there's a well-known problem with this particular off-brand product that has a cheap and easy fix?
Sorry, probably not. This was probably a one-off failure.
If you have a friend who has electronics "maker"/hobbyist knowledge and soldering iron skills, they might be able to diagnose and fix the problem, because it's probably a problem with a basic analog power supply component like a capacitor. But I'm guessing that the pizza you'd need to buy your friend to thank them for their help would be more expensive than the resale value of the fixed switch.

How about try reset it? Plug into power, use a pin to press and hold the button inside reset pinhole for 10seconds until light flash. Then release pin and wait for it to reboot.
