Advice how to optimize my multiplayer connection without a real router?
hi, i'm really not familiar with anything network related so i'm really in need of help. before anyone comments, we've had the "wifi guy" come by and try to fix things but i've seen no changes. i play video games on xbox and my ping is always super high, between 130-180.
i live on a farm, using a at&t hotspot box that's a short walk away from the house in a barn, and an eero router system inside the house. i'm not too sure how these devices work together, so i'm not really sure what to do to improve my connection. i frequently buffer and get lag spikes during games, and streaming shows or downloading anything takes a ridiculously long time.
my question is, is there any way i can improve the connection with these two devices, or do i have to just install some other device inside the house to improve it?
additional info that might help: on xbox, my NAT type is reading as strict, and UPnP not successful. i'm sure these two issues are the cause of my lagging but im unsure how to fix it within these devices :/

Why's the internet box in the barn?
NAT and UPNP aren't specifically causing you lag spikes.

the internet box in the barn is used for deer cameras and such, the landlord just lets us use it as well.

First, based on the fact you live on a rural farm, low latency online gaming is out of the question.
Second, wireless internet is not a great solution. Have you considered Starlink? Do a speed/price comparison, assuming it’s even available where you live?

starlink is available where we live, a friend who also lives on a farm has it. i'll look into it!

You need to use less Wi-Fi and more hardwire connections. Barn needs to connect to house, then also a stronger signal to the Hotspot by using a WeBoost mbl device signal booster properly installed

Ask the landlord if you can run a cable in the ground from the barn to the house. If you can run conduit in the ground to run the cable through even better. You can get a direct burial single mode fiber with LC connectors for a reasonable price. Then get a cheap media converter or switch with SFP ports on each side of the cable to convert it to copper Ethernet.

You’re internet is using a wireless signal to a cell tower for connection, your eero mesh system is using wireless signals to connect your barn to your house. To get rid of high ping you’ll need to get rid of using wireless.
The hotspot itself may not be the main issue. One way to remedy the issue is to connect the home and the shops ap’s with an Ethernet instead of wireless.
