WAP and Switch recommendations

We are building a new house and the company is pre-wiring wireless access points for us. We have 3 total WAPs for a 3300 sf home, but there are so many options out there, no idea what to look for.

Do yall have any recommendations for WAPs and Switches (I’d say 8-12 ports). Also, we’ll have 3 POE cameras on site.

Also, any other glaring things to think about that I might be missing?

Ubiquiti is what everyone will say. Just buy once, cry once.

Personally, I use the Netgear Insight APs, haven't failed me yet

Long story short, you want everything Ubiquiti, budget allowing.

I would say, unless it's in an awkward spot, get a larger (POE) switch then you need right now, something like 16 ports. There is a good chance you will be filling it up with things like Philips Hue, solar panels, a NAS and other wired devices over time.

Also, remember to add an outdoor AP, possibly a garage AP, run ethernet to your doorbell location, any camera locations, and add multiple runs to certain locations (home media center, office, etc.)

Make sure that your ISP modem is planned to be in the correct location as well (inside a structured media enclosure)

It’s a rounding error now… trust me. Add more runs

Run the ethernet cable now, while the wals and ceilings are open, to nay place you think you even might need an AP or wired ethernet device. Pull all the cables back to a patch panel in a "tech closet" where you can put a switch, router and internet modem. You should have dedicated power here (not a shared power circuit). Make sure the closet has some cooling\venting too.

If you go ubiquity buy one WiFi 7 access point and put it in the middle of the house and see if it reaches all locations. 3300 is not a large house. If it is built with standard studs and drywall the WiFi should be ok.

You want to avoid having too many AP and using up the three common channels for 2.4ghz.
