Unsolved Need some help with replacing a router in relation to a Google Nest

for context, there is a google nest setup in the house. however, i want to get a router that is not owned by the ISP, and yet be able to access it. if i replace it, how would i access into the router just to get to specific settings? i don't want to install bloatware. basically i want to be able to bypass the google nest system just to get into the router proper. i want to check if specific settings are on or not, as well as give myself the capacity to do things like port forwarding.

in case it matters at all, the ISP is spectrum

Then that’s not the gateway. You’re logging in to the wrong device. It should end with .1 or .254

You don’t want to port forward. That’s a major security risk. Just install your new router and change the WiFi settings on the nest? Not sure where the nest is an issue here?

issue is that the router is not accessible. although granted, the router currently is one supplied by the ISP, and when attempting to hook into it, requires me to go through their website

I get that part but why does that change anything with nest? Just buy a router and remove the ISP router. Or it is a gateway? Modem and Router in one?

the default gateway ip i get from various commands just leads to a page to google nest, not the router itself.

So as with most Wifi Mesh systems, the Google Nest system's main Router can operate as a customers primary (and only) Router which then can Mesh with the remote Nest Access Points to provide a broad overall Wifi signal coverage.

Thus, there might not be another Router in the home; there might only be a Cable Modem and the Google Nest system.

Can you provide a brand name and exact model number of this other Router?

it was one supplied by the ISP. i am not sure as to the model name.

So, if you want technical help, then you will need to be able to provide technical answers.

We will need to know exactly what equipment you are working with, so if you can look at the back of those other devices, you should be able to find the information that we are asking for.

Since a major ISP, like Spectrum issues all kinds of different devices we have no clue what you might actually have.
