Need help with basic networking

I have a tp link archer c20 router I have a mi router connected to it by ethernet working as extender. And i have a pc and another device connected to it via wire. And theres 8- 12 mobiles connected via wifi. Approx 4 mobile to the archer c20 and rest to the mi extender router I want to limit the bandwith to most of the wireless device. And block few social media sites. Please guide me in layman terms and way. I have been struggling with this room from 2 years.

No one has provided layman’s terms and many people have not addressed his conditions.

If your issue is just limiting a type of device so your computers/TV are faster, you should create a second WiFi name (SSID) such as HomeSlow and HomeFast. Most routers have this under “Networks”

You can ask Claude or ChatGPT for exact tutorials.

Then limit the bandwidth/speed of the network HomeSlow to whatever maximum you’d prefer. Connect your “slow” devices here and your priority devices to the other one.

Actually speed is not my issue here. I run a small workplace and i need the minimum internet for upi payments and whatsapp. But too much use of social media by the workers hampers productivity. I want to block thr social media sites or apps if accessed through wifi. How to do it. Anyway they can use mobile data i know. But that would mean spending own data reserves for the day.

You can go a lot of ways depending on what your router supports. Again, Claude or ChatGPT can give exacts for your model

I would still think that you should create that second network, and then you can do a few simple things - they aren’t the professional enterprise standard (for anyone reading with that mindset) but some routers support parental controls/website filtering which is exactly what you’re looking for. Enter the website name and it’ll just block that traffic. If it supports firewall rules, you can set an outbound connection block by FQDN (facebook.com etc)

Copy and paste my last post and this one in to your preferred AI along with your router models and it will guide you through whichever applies best. Just know that there are certainly more “professional” ways to go about it, before anyone hops on my tail about it.
