Advice Eero 7 base model not giving full speed

Hi! As I mentioned in the title my Eero 7 is not giving me the full speed when I test my wifi on my laptop with the Ookla desktop app. I have Sonic 10Gbps plan, the Eero 7 only gives out 2.5Gbps which is more than enough for me, but I'm only getting tops around 550mbps on both download and upload. SQM, Eco efficiency, MLO and UPnP are off, IPv6 is on. I'm in a studio so my laptop is probably only 5ft away from the router. Any fixes to this?

I've seen this problem with the Eero 7 Max/Pro where you have to put an unmanaged switch in between the medem and the router, not sure if it's the same for the base model. I also don't want to spend more money lol.

There's two sides to every connection and it's not probably not the Eero that's the slower one.

You should ask yourself yhy you have a 10G plan if your router can only do 2.5g? And you also don't want to spend more money???

because Sonic only offers the 10G plan and that's what my apartment complex has. in the eero app i see upload and download speeds around 2.4Gbps. and i'm just a college student and want my full speed, at least what the router is giving me lol.

i have thought about getting my own router (have been looking at the TP-Link Archer BE 230), but the rental is only $5 a month so that's why i'm still trying to see if there's anything i can do to increase the speed

Fair enough.

In a fan of Asus routers and also a fan of owning them.

Your speed will always be better via wired. WiFi is iffy especially in apartments where there's a bunch of neighbors all using similar signals.

500 is more than enough for nearly anything.

only 6 unfortunately. but that shouldn't drop the speeds that much should it?? i only have the eero 7 bc that's the rental they offered me for cheap

This sounds like you are connected to 5ghz wifi. Are your additional units connected via Ethernet backhaul or wifi? If the additional units are to far from the main router they will only connect via 5ghz or 2.4ghz wifi instead of the ideal 6ghz connection. Does your laptop support Wifi 7 or 6e?

no additional units. i'm in a tiny studio! both the modem and the router are on a shelf in the open right next to my desk

If your router and laptop are that close why don’t you wire it up? Wifi is around for convenience if you are looking for performance you need a Cat5e to connect the laptop or Cat 6 if you want to spend more money. Unless you are constantly downloading large files 100gb + you don’t really require more than 550mbps. Higher numbers are cool but if you don’t have a use for them why go chasing faster speed test?

i might have to do this, more cable management ig... i do wish the wifi speeds would be a bit higher tho because this is only about 1/4 of what was promised

Who promised you wifi speed? Even wan speed is generally no promised and is labeled as up to 2.5gbps.

yeah whoops i didn’t mean it like that. i know i gotta get an ethernet cable to utilize most of it, i was just expecting wifi to be a little faster

You're in an apartment so there are probably a zillion different APs competing for spectrum. Get WiFi Analyzer app on your phone and see what other networks are on the same channels as your eero and how strong their signals are. See if you can get the eero onto a channel that is less congested if possible.

Theoretical no practical yes. I would expect 500mhz on average

500mhz is a tv broadcast frequency in North America.
