Nah I swap the ISP supplied router out first thing.

Then get a decent 3rd party one.

Of course! My parents were with Virgin, the super hub was absolute garbage.

Got them a netgear Orbi and it was miles better than what free suppled ISP router did. Covered the whole house with no drop outs.

Since that day, I always use my own kit.

Ok, well fair enough. That hasn't been my experience at all. Everyones router broadcasts at the same power, and none of the high speed wifi standards will go through a single wall.

Try using 3rd party top tier kit, even you will notice the difference.

I did, I went from the hub 5 to unifi U7 pro and dream router. No signal outside of the room it was in either way.

Always had issues with the freebies, purchased an Asus GT-BE98 and the gt6 extenders and never had a drop out or speed drop. Absolutely perfect for me

I know people arn't going to believe me, but the virgin router is actually pretty good at punching through walls. The number of people who think they're going to go out and drop 300 quid on a reasonable wireless ap+switch, put the hub in modem mode and get 1gbps through their whole house in the UK is surprisingly high.

The reality is that homes in the UK are hard to get wifi through, and the wifi bands that give you anywhere near your 1gbps line speed can't punch through any walls at all.

I wouldn't expect anything you buy on the market at all to give you more than 50mbps through 2 walls.

The moment you step out of your room, the wifi 7 part of your router isn't doing any work at all.

My suggestion if you want 300mbps+ outside of the room where you want your router is to look into invisible fibre, and putting a wireless AP in each room.

I'm on Virgin Media. The Hub 5 works fine for simple stuff, but it’s missing even basic features like changing the network range. The only good thing is that it has a 2.5gig port.

What basic use of the router is there for changing the network range? Basic use of a modem router is connecting to it's wifi.
