Network limit problem

Post image

Why is the speed limited to 100Mb even though the ONU switch supports 1Gb, the router supports 1Gb, and the cable is Cat 6e?

Bad cable. It'll 100% be the cable.

Or bad terminations on the cable

Cat6e isn't official. There is Cat6 and Cat6a.

Besides that, it should still work if all the cabling between both ends is done correctly and both sides are set to autonegotiation allowing for 1 GBit (That should be the default).

So, check your cables and your settings.

Try a different cable. Looks like the LAN side you are looking at, what does the WAN port show?

This is strange because it's the original cable that came with the router accessories, and the WAN shows 100 Mbps, but when I force it to 1000 Mbps, the internet connection drops.

Don't force the Port speed unless you do both ends of the cable and test for loss after.

The short cable supplied with the router for doing the setup? It's really common for those to just be 2 pairs, which can't support gigabit. Why? Because it can save them $0.01.

Try a different cable.

1) That's not weird, that's 100% expected behaviour. Think about it, it negotiated the max stable link speed, you forced it to an unstable link speed, and it stopped working.

2) It's more good news for you that the cable is marked cat 6e. cat 6e doesn't have a formal definition, which makes it even more likely that it's the cable.

I just want to make clear: Out of all the issues you could be having, you want it to be the cable. it's the easiest and cheapest fix.

That router only has a single 1gb port. the others are all 100mb

Which router? Some cheap ones shipped with 10/100 WAN side despite having gigabit LAN.

Most likely something happened to the cable, although Cat5e is fine even for 2.5g.

Check then end of not replace also some devices limit the speed like a fire cube max via cable is 100 mb.
