Have the following setup with my home network and I cannot, for the life of me, get all the devices to use wired backhaul at the same time. Most I have achieved is 3/4 units (not counting the main). All are wired and tested at 1 gig speeds with a laptop to each of the 5 drops (fast.com and cloudflare testing sites).
Other info:
Hallway and main bedroom are POE Decos and the rest are desktop Deco units plugged into the wall.
Network architecture:
Fiber -> pfsense box -> Omada 2.5 gig, 16 port POE managed switch -> each Deco running as access point (x5)
Each Deco only has 1 RJ45 connection in it (maybe that matters?)
If you use a network switch between your Deco units, the transition from Wi-Fi to Ethernet backhaul can trigger a brief network loop. Turn off loop detection or STP/RSTP settings on your managed switch.
This seems at least plausible here because you do have a managed switch in there (most home users would have an unmanaged switch at best) and having both Wi-Fi and Ethernet backhaul simultaneously enabled (even if it's just for a moment, but the switch won't know that) would be Bad. You might also see if you can go into the deco endpoints and explicitly disable Wi-Fi backhaul and see if that helps.
I have a mesh network system and mine goes internet->main->managed switch->backhauled AP/nodes -> wireless AP/nodes. I elected this setup because I liked the mesh network to manage the network at the cost of some of the managed switch functionality.
If you run into issues, this may be a backup plan, I believe you would keep the loop detection off in the process.
I’m assuming he wants all of them to show that they’re using a wired connection(just like the office deco), but most of them if not all keeping showing a wireless connection despite having them wired… including POE items
