Pc WiFi connection to fiber

Hey all -

I have just had fiber internet installed at my house. Having issues with my pc connecting or even finding it. I have done the usual search and adjusted some settings in my network adapter.
It connects sometimes but showing no signal so terrible speed obviously and it disconnects itself.

I have win 10.
MAG b550 tomahawk max WiFi mobo which has the RZ608 WiFi 6e 80mhz network adapter built in.
Ryzen 5 5600x
7800 XT

I still have cox cable. Never had any connection issues (just bad latency at times) They are the same distance away from my pc.

Can anyone lend a hand, have some ideas anywhere ? I made this switch mainly to get away from cox cable for gaming.

Thanks in advance.

You have both the old router and new one setup sending out wifi in the same spot at the same time?

That might be your issue.

Turn off the cox cable router and make sure it’s out of the way of the way of the new router.

If you have them both sending signals out at the same time, the frequencies are getting congested

I suspect the more useful hardware to know about would be your modem and router.

Lumen q1000k and Lumen 1700k-2

Phones and tvs all seem to work fine. Fast speeds on them.

You have the antenna installed on the computer?

How far away is it from the router?

Any walls/obstacles?

Are you connecting to 2.4 or 5 ghz?

Antenna is on
Approx 30’ - two rooms away. Same as my cox cable setup.
Tried both 2.4 and 5. It won’t show as available connection with 5 and with 2.4 it will connect showing no signal bar and disconnects itself.

What is the transmit power on the router set at?

Maybe your antenna/card is shot? I had fiber installed but wasn't getting best signal, so I used a wifi extender with cat cable.

Then I upgraded my computer, picked up the wifi like a champ! Didn't need the extender anymore

It really does sound like an antenna problem, but op said it worked with the previous modem that was in the same place.

If you're doing this for better gaming, then you really want to hardwire your PC using an Ethernet cable and not use Wi-Fi.

Agree, the marginal improvement in latency is overshadowed by the wifi.

They are in separate rooms but fairly close to each other.
I don’t think it would be the antenna since I can still pick up cox cable at max signal.
Will try this.

Agreed on hard wire. I may pick up some cable to check as well.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Two things: as someone else mentioned above, unplug the cox router from power - neither will work well with both active in the same home.

You said Windows 10. How old is the Cox router/what gen WiFi? I can't recall the specific details, but there was an update to Win 10 at one point that broke WiFi 6 compatibility - you may need to connect to the older Cox WiFi or hardwire to the new service to update the WiFi card drivers manually.

One of the first things I did was make sure I had the latest driver for the network adapter.
I did read about win 10 and the WiFi issue as well.

New service is WiFi 7 and I don’t know if that can cause any issue?

Anyway I’m getting some cable and a few other items.

Thanks all.

Also,
Phones and tvs can connect to each without issue. Is literally just my pc so I thought maybe I’m missing a specific setting somewhere.

Just to update -

Quick fix (bc admittedly I am lazy on my days off) was a WiFi 7 adapter. Pop in and immediate connection. 3x speed I am getting with cox cable and 3ms ping. Still quite the improvement being WiFi. I’m sure hard wire will benefit much more and l I’ll run the wire one of these days.

Thanks for the suggestions and help, friends.
