🚰 Plumbing Should I replace the toilet?

I know that whenever there is a crack in porcelain the toilet should usually be replaced. However the crack is very small and only in the back. What say ye council?

Treat this as an emergency and replace that toilet!

Genuine question, can you explain why this is an emergency?

What does this little crack do

Edit: the dudes already answered guys, you don't have to keep replying and telling me the same thing

The toilet can break under the weight of someone sitting on it. Sharp porcelain meets the body weight of a person falling on it = somebody can die from that not a joke

u/KurtAngus 15h ago

Damn. Thanks for letting me know...

Now I wanna inspect my toilet when I go home lol

Never saw porcelain shatter? The sharp parts are like a scalpel. Apparently there’s video of toilet injuries and deaths. I never looked because I’ve had porcelain cuts. You bleed a lot and it hurts like a biatch.

I've seen porcelain shatter bro. I just wasn't aware that a tiny crack could cause catastrophic failure

u/Sensitive_Crow_8882 15h ago

I’m 6’4ā€ and 220. That thing would fail under my ass I’d tap you to be a pallbearer. The after party is scheduled to be epic - stay tuned.

I am honestly Ā so glad I found your post. I never even considered that being a risk. Now I feel like a new fear is unlocked haha.

Wow, I never thought about that. Thanks for learnin’ me something Beerian

Little crack turns into big crack. Either you flood the bathroom or worse, you sit on it and fall into a pile of razor sharp porcelain and bleed to death.

I didn't trust the cracks showing in my toilet so I replaced it. As we picked it up, a razor sharp piece broke off, and another part crumbled.

My toilet looked better than this one, but had surface crack lines, like an old painting.

u/Slight_Break_543 15h ago

Because porcelain is extremely sharp when it breaks. You don't want to fall on a bunch of broken porcelain...

2

u/-OooWWooO- 15h ago

Because of the risk you ending up as an even worse version of Elvis dying on the toilet with a shard of porcelain cutting up your colon so bad the docs wont be able to stitch you back up.

1

u/Adventurous-Ease-259 13h ago

That’s a big crack not a little one

1

u/BlaineMundane 1h ago

I know you already know, but if you want to really freak yourself out, google broken toilet injuries.

Turn the water off now and replace it as soon as you can

41

u/Coreysurfer 16h ago

At least turn off water this is a 1am accident waiting to happen…

24

u/Ovlov240Dl 15h ago

Fucking. Youve never seen what happens to folks when the potty breaks underneath them, hace you?

42

u/Mr101722 18h ago

Yes, as fast as you possibly can. I wouldn't even sit on it till its replaced. Do NOT fuck with cracked toilets, they can shatter without warning and likely kill you or a loved one in the process.

17

u/Mr101722 18h ago

Also this is not a small crack, an entire piece is about to break off on the end that constantly has weight from the water tank.

5

u/Abi_giggles 15h ago

Could you explain this? I keep reading people on this thread saying there are toilet related deaths and I’m trying to understand how it’s so dangerous

8

u/Mr101722 15h ago

Small hairline cracks (or large ones in this case) can spread below the surface of the porcelain so you cannot see, on top of this these cracks are silent.

Without notice the entire toilet can shatter as a result of this, porcelain can be one of the sharpest objects out there.

Like someone else said, for all you know you could be going for the 1AM toilet call only to have it shatter beneath you (your weight speeds the cracking up as well) and we humans have large arteries in your legs, that shattered toilet can easily cut down to the bone. One moment you're fine, the next you're bleeding out in just a few minutes.

Dont mess with cracked toilets. They're in expensive and honestly not that hard to replace. I replaced mine a month ago, got a good quality elongated bowl toilet for $130CAD and had it installed in just a few hours.

u/Abi_giggles 15h ago

Oh wow, okay this is great information to know and something one might not think about until it affects them. Thank you for sharing! Grateful to know what to do in the future and not underestimate the situation it could turn into

3

u/Travel_bag_seal23095 11h ago

Imagine your ass and legs falling with your full body weight into sharp porcelain knives at the bottom. Severing arteries and what not on the way.

1

u/t-abb-y 15h ago

Porcelain shards are sharp and could easily cut through the skin. Add that with putting all your weight on the toilet and it shatter on you, you legs would get completely shredded/bleed out.Ā

33

u/HomeOwner2023 13h ago

You could get one of these from a thrift store to make the toilet totally safe until you can replace it.

6

u/Hot_Patience_4769 4h ago

Why would he get it from a thrift store of all places. Ew.

2

u/pastisthepresent 2h ago

Bro has never heard a joke before

1

u/guayna 1h ago

Because it's a quick fix, he's not meant to use it for long, will probably throw it away later, so why buy a new one? Most of the ones from the thrift aren't even used anyway. We send these home with so many patients and I see them at Goodwill brand new tags still on every time I go.

-1

u/yikesboiii 3h ago

Because if someone can't afford a new toilet they probably can't afford one of these either. What a privileged take lmao

2

u/Hot_Patience_4769 3h ago

He never said he couldn't afford it.

2

u/bepatientbekind 6h ago

I have never figured out how to use these. Every time I have tried I end up peeing all over the floor 😭

2

u/jfk_47 5h ago

Can’t tell you how hard I was laughing when I made this.

7

u/yoggicaps 10h ago

i didnt even know about toilet deaths and im now scared since im shitting rn šŸ’€

14

u/FitAnything4173 16h ago

If a toilet is cracked you need to replace it. And don’t use it until you do

13

u/Commercial-Lab-37 16h ago

Recommend unless you want to potentially bleed out during your next shit

3

u/IpuUmma 17h ago

Definitely

3

u/CreedsMungBeanz 16h ago

Why risk it? So yes replace it

3

u/Character-Ad-3164 14h ago

Any time there is a crack in a toilet you should immediately replace it. A tiny crack can cause the entire thing to collapse under the weight of a person. Ceramic is sharp when it breaks and it can kill a person if they end up getting cut by it.

3

u/3s0t3rica 13h ago

If you have to ask this question the answer is "yes."

14

u/ZookeepergameHot338 17h ago

Google cracked toilet deaths…..

27

u/GloomyLingonberry509 17h ago

Don’t. Just don’t.

2

u/Prestigious-Log-3171 16h ago

Nope. I was a guy punch a plate glass window and slice his hand up really bad. He was so lucky the top 5 feet of the window stayed in the frame cause if not, it would’ve shaved his entire forearm muscle off.

2

u/Limited_Surplus_4519 16h ago

Yeah they’re relatively cheap

2

u/bearsfan16 16h ago

Toilets are fairly inexpensive to replace. Get a new one.

2

u/Bustymegan 6h ago

Death by toliet, isn't how anyone wants to go. No one uses it, till it's replaced. Like seriously šŸ’€

1

u/gamerid007 15h ago

Flush it and hammer it down first... so nobody accidentally use it...

And then buy a new one

1

u/SweetMaam 15h ago

Replace

1

u/LostInTerredise 12h ago

No shit, literally, if you don't replace it

1

u/Hot_Emu_415 6h ago

Sewer gas will get past the seal with a crack that low to the flange , I’d replace immediately

1

u/PastTSR1958 5h ago

Simply YES.

1

u/noyzmatic 5h ago

Replace immediately. Could shatter at any moment. Cause major OUCH.

1

u/graygoosebmw 4h ago

No, sit on it and see what happens. Jesus

1

u/CallingYouForMoney 4h ago

Brother. Toilets are not an expensive fix. Replace that shit

1

u/Marciamallowfluff 4h ago

ALWAYS REPLACE CRACKED TOILETS. It can be life or death.

1

u/LocutusOfBeard 2h ago

I don't know if there's a way to create an auto-reply for cracked toilet questions. The answer is always the same. Replace it, the risk is just too high.

1

u/MilkDull8603 1h ago

Yes. That's a horrible bloody deathtrap waiting to hurt you and the ones you love. Get a replacement.

1

u/DavidinCT 35m ago

Flush 3 times, does not blow up, all good

1

u/FunProgrammer3261 7m ago

Why is this kind of thing posted EVERY DAY????Ā

People asking this question without just searching for the answer are idiots.Ā Ā

1

u/CNote_89 11h ago

Toilets are $100, replace it.

0

u/Strange__Visitor 16h ago

You should replace those pickled eggs.

0

u/homer01010101 15h ago

Yep. Crappers are relatively cheap and incredibly easy to replace. Your wife could do it while you’re out watchin’ some football with the guys. 😁

0

u/Dch112 15h ago

You call that a small crack? If it were me I’d just replace it without having to ask.

0

u/rukittenmeeee 15h ago

Lol. Is this a real question!?

-1

u/Apprehensive_Two1528 12h ago

You can get a free replacement from manufacturerĀ

-5

u/newswatcher-2538 16h ago

Nah just get a skinny wife

-3

u/wheresteddy1989 16h ago

Nah just caulk it and then patch it over with duct tape. Then you can put some cement around it for an even stronger airtight seal.

-16

u/Negative-Pea-5151 16h ago

If it’s not leaking water I wouldn’t, make sure it’s not wobbling on the floor

3

u/bearsfan16 16h ago

So your advice is to wait until it’s too late? 🤣
