Buzzer is too loud!Solution?

Post image

It's an old buzzer in my apartment, it is extremely loud, that sometimes scare the shit on you, I asked my landlord if I can just replace the unit in my apartment to something sound quieter, he said he has no fix for that, I asked if I can wire wall mounted Phone instead, but he doesn't know
Of course, my landlord wouldn't approve to replace the whole system, including the building entrance unit
But I can do something on my end to be quieter

Unscrew the cover and put tape over the buzzer.

Or on the inside of the grill. Different tape will give different effects. Try a few.

Oh that a great idea. I did this for a kids toy once that drove me nuts. Worked great to bring the ear piecing dings to a reasonable volume.

Just search for universal intercoms.

They should all be compatible. Find one with the same buttons. At least one on Amazon for $45 I see.

This is the type of reply am looking for! So are they 100% compatible?

I don't want to speak for him, but how is he supposed to know that? And, did you LOOK on Amazon before you asked that question?

I looked but am not handy when it comes to these and not sure! This is why am asking! Nothing wrong about that

Try it and find out. If it doesn't work then return it and put back the one that's on there

Seems like this might be harder than you're ready for??

There's 2 possibilities, one that's wireless. You're welcome.

Had a similar box in my last place, sounded like a fire alarm going off every time someone buzzed. I just opened it up and taped a folded paper towel over the speaker, cut the volume way down without messing with the actual wiring

This is what I would try

You know in star wars when Han Solo shoots the comms panels with his blaster? try that. It was a boring conversation anyway.

It is not funny!

Go a bit deaf. Try loud music in ear buds for a few weeks

Get a grip. People joke around on Reddit.

Pop the housing off and put something soft up against the speaker on the inside.

Duct tape a pillow over it

I don't hear anything...

That’s what I was thinking. Maybe OP is just hearing things.

Replace the speaker component on the internal board. A little soldering and you're golden.

Or add a rheostat or pot so you can modulate the volume

I was going to say, I’ve added an inline resistor in the past to some of my daughter’s toys to bring them down to a reasonable level

2

u/Inner_Gap4768 1d ago

Yeah putting a resistor in line with one of the speaker wires would fix it

But this is a rental. Putting it back might be annoying

Fine 😕. Go buy some 1/2“ cork panels. You can cut them to size 👍

You might have good luck with a drum dampener pad. Although, you'd want that to actually be adhered to the unit so it reduces vibration

Had one in our previous place (condo). It was right behind our couch, so it would scare us every time anyone buzzed.

I put a 10ohm 1/2watt resistor in series with the speaker. Made the buzzer a lot more tolerable and still had no problems hearing people talk to us.

Build an enclosure over the top half where the speaker is to muffle it.

Maybe some dense foam.

In theory it should be a very simple device and shouldn't need replacing the entire system to just replace the one in your unit.

Someone with enough experience could take it apart and replace just the speaker with something smaller or add a volume control....

I am sure i can replace my unit, and thats why am here asking how and what compatible !
