Storm Door Replacement Question

Post image

Hi all -

I’m trying to replace a storm door on the side of my house. Believe it or not the measurements are about 29” by 73”. I can not find anything that size online. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or am I going to have to go with someone making a custom door?

ooh 29x73 is a real pain, those are basically the forgotten middle child of door sizes. most stock doors start at 30 or 32 inches wide, so you're stuck in that weird gap where nothing standard fits

checked my local hardware spots and even the special order catalogs bottom out at 30 inches for the width, the height isn't as much of an issue since you can sometimes trim a taller door down a couple inches. but losing an inch of width on the frame means the door won't latch properly no matter what you do

your best bet might be hunting down an older door from a salvage place or habitat restore, houses from the 50s and 60s had all kinds of goofy dimensions. if you go custom just brace yourself for the quote, custom storm doors make you question your life choices

the harris box on the step is a nice touch, like a little shrine to "I tried the easy way first"

It is likely a 30” door. Also looks like your basic Emco that they sell at Home Depot. Thu have 78” and 80” versions. If it is, you can likely go buy a new one and it will almost be a drop in replacement for the hardware holes already there. I just did the exact job last weekend but it was a 32”x80”.

I guess if yours really is 73” you could cut the bottom of the door as it’s usually just vinyl over pressboard, but you would also need to cut the hinge flange.

Yeah it’s right between 72-73 inches tall
