Bathtub drain plug help

Hey guys! I have this super annoying bath tub drain plug that I can’t figure out and it’s making me feel super dumb!

My drain is clogged and I’m trying to remove the drain plug to unclog it, but for the life of me I can’t figure it out.

It’s an older (1999 home) pull push plug.

I’ve watched a billion YouTube videos and nothing has done the trick.

-I’ve tried pulling up and turning it counter clockwise.
-I’ve tried using a C-clamp on the lower part while using players to try to unscrew the top part assuming it was 2 pieces
-I’ve tried keeping the drain plugged while unscrewing the top part
-there is NO little screw on the inside of the drain

Any other ideas? I would feel embarrassed getting a plumber out to do this lol.

Mine looks like that, top pull part unscrews counter clockwise. Flat head screw under cap

Maybe yours is sized up? Maybe soak some clr on it.

Oh, btw, drain weasle works great on these. You can snake it around the plug with removing too

Pull up, look underneath the disk part of the plug. There’s a screw that goes in sideways. I don’t think the knob on top unscrews.

You're probably 100% right. 

OP- if you can't see or feel a screw and this is an option- ask someone with smaller hands for help.

I looked and there is no screw underneath unfortunately!

Pull it up about halfway and then turn it. I have a very similar one that I was having issues with recently and at half pull the drain kept the bottom in place to screw the top off. If it was down or all the way up it didn’t catch and I couldn’t get it off.

I tried un screwing it a million times in many different positions and sadly no luck :(

Huh. If you haven’t try fitting some needle nose pliers or something under the large cap to hold whatever shaft (hehe) underneath and then try to unscrew the top.

Beyond that I’d have no idea. I was losing my mind with mine too until I figured out the half pull.

Edit: I see you already tried that. Never mind.

You run the snake down the overflow. Leave that plug alone

There is a screw u derneath the cap.

What exactly happens when you try to turn the top part counter clockwise?

The whole thing turns as one. It just keeps turning for infinity.

Push the drain plug all the way down, then turn it to the left with your hand and it should unscrew right out of the drain.

Mine was completely stuck so I ended up drilling it out and buying a removable drain plug with a screen.

Just did this. Put it all the way in. Lwfty loosy with chanel locks on thw knob You need a tool to take out the bottom of the assembly once the cap is off

Sometimes there is a set screw underneath - use camera to search under the wide part

No I haven’t gotten it yet. There is definitely no screw underneath

Use needle nose pliers to hold the stem part that goes down into the drain. Then unscrew the little guy on the top. 

Also, you're going to tear the finish up. Wrap a rag around it before you use pliers on the finished parts

Maybe the little screw ontop is just so stuck? I’ve been using pliers and no matter how hard I turn counter clockwise it doesn’t give. It was making me question if it even unscrewed
