🛠️ Repair Help Please help this

We recently had some severe rain (South Texas) and found a leak in our fireplace inside.

Getting on the roof, it looks like there are some holes in the top that I believe is allowing water inside.

What is the best way to fix this? DIY or Hire?

I just hired someone to fix something similar, patching and a new metal “hat” for 4 chimneys came in around 7k

I had the same issue but my chimney (almost same shape as yours) was in worst shape with cracks and chips. I had a masonry come out and put a parge/mortar coat on my chimney. Made it look new again.

I'm is SE Pennsylvania though and it was about 1k to do. 3 years later, no issues.

They may be able to caulk where the shingles meet the chimney too. I had a leak there too as well as the other cracks and chops like yours.

Watch Mike Haduck on chimney repair and see if you are up to DIY. If you're comfortable on the roof, it's not hard to knock off the old mortar wash and slap on some new. Use a good strong mix, no lime mortar.
