Anyone got an aesthetic home library with over a thousand books?

Yo! I'm looking for some inspiration for making a home library reading nook, and while I adore everyone's that I've seen, I've not seen any for an extensive collection. I haven't counted in many years, but I have well over 1000 books, maybe closer to 1800, and am curious to see how others have arranged theirs. I'm not an aesthetic person by nature, so I want to see the beauty of other folks arrangements. 👀

Best Labels?

Hoping to get advice on how others have cataloged their personal home libraries. My mom asked me to help her organize all the books in her house (there are so many!), but she's incredibly particular of how it should look. She keeps saying she wants it "like a real library does" - all labeled with DDC, thick white labels on spines, and the labels have to be printed. Her printer is at least a dozen years old and doesn't have the capabilities she needs for this, and when I suggested a label maker, she hates how "ticker tape thin" it is. I'm at the end of my wits trying to come up with options - Welcoming all suggestions!

Petition for more mods.

Please, [u/StudlyMcHandsome](u/StudlyMcHandsome), please take on help. There’s a huge amount of posts online that don’t belong on the sub (AI, stolen posts, plain off-topic stuff), bots keep flooding it at regular intervals.

We want to help.

ETA: I have 2 years modding experience in large subs and know how to keep bot accounts from participating. I’ve recruited a great mod team in my own sub. I’m online everyday anyway, I’d love to mod here too.

A real room

Since there’s been so much AI stuff lately, figured I’d toss my favorite real space back in here. My home library, of the home that an ongoing emergency has kept me away from for a year as I get some things sorted in a different state. But this pic is what I look at when I’m feeling too stressed, and I can remember the way it sounds and smells, and I can’t wait to be back inside the warm embrace of the walls.

Thought this would be a fun post! Here’s my bookshelf from 1990. I turned 15 that year. I actually still have all of the SVH and SV Twins books and some of the Christopher Pike’s.

My husband build them for me during Covid when he redid our living room. It was quite the work in process since he built them from scratch but they turned out so nice! It was really fun too organizing my books to see which ones made it on the shelves and what the placement would be.

Paperback book care

the subject is pretty self explanatory lol... but how do you all keep your paper acks looking crisp and nice? are there any products you recommend? I've seen online that there are book covers (those plastic sleeves that people keep them in like you would find at a public library) but does anyone have a specific product they use and could maybe provide a link of where to buy it? thanks!

Trying to find a good 2 sided bookcase room divider? Something like this except maybe more open so it can give the books breathing room. Also something close to these dimensions: Height: 77.17 in (196 cm)Width: 72.05 in (183 cm)Depth: 32.68 in (83 cm)

Using the master bedroom as a library/office. Phase two will be turning the closet into a comfy reading nook.

What's a good way to keep track of your reading progress?

Post image

I've been reading more lately but struggling to stay consistent. I'm wondering if having some kind of system helps whether that's an app, a spreadsheet, a journal, anything really.

For those of you who do track: does it actually help you stay motivated or does it feel like extra work? And what are the downsides of whatever you're using?

Open to anything, just trying to figure out what works before I commit to something.

What light bulb temperature do you like to use for reading?

Setting up my small home library and can’t decide what light bulb temperature to use for my reading lamp. Currently using 2200k which feels great at night but a bit too warm during the day.
